An eye to the gas pump

Forget about nap rooms, workplace concierges and a green light to take-your-dog to work. You know what job candidates are looking for these days? Employers who are easing the pain of the increasing cost of commuting.

An online poll at Monster.com shows that 83 percent of the more than 22,000 respondents said the cost of gas was affecting their job searches and the distance they are willing to commute.

Yet, bosses don’t seem to be getting the message. Another online Monster poll shows 90 percent of close to 7200 workers saying their employers are doing nothing to ease the pain.

So, here’s an idea – allow for more telecommuting. People get more work done, plus save the cost of the commute. So, who’s to lose?
