Allerca's kitty hybrid cause some hissing
New claims launch a catfight

"Originality," said that great sage, Benjamin Franklin, "is the art of concealing your sources."
Last month, San Diego-based Allerca announced that its long-awaited hypoallergenic cats would be available next year - to the tune of $4,000 each (plus $1,000 in "processing and transportation" fees). Soon after, breeders of Siberian cats raised a fuss, noting that their former Moscow street urchins have essentially the same low- allergy qualities, at a fraction of the price.
And now, the Savannah-cat people (right) are lining up with a yowl of their own: They say Allerca's next "lifestyle cat," the Ashera, whose trademarked name harkens to an ancient Canaanite goddess, is simply a slick repackaging of their fledgling breed - with a $6,000 price tag. (Here's an extra decimel point for you: Allerca plans to sell Ashera franchises next year at $45,000 a pop.)
What both the Savannah and Ashera have in common is the African serval (left and below), a long-necked, elaborately marked wild cat with a small head and oversized ears. Like the Asian leopard cat, which is the basis for the popular Bengal breed, the serval can be crossed with domestic cats to create an exotic, leopard-looking hybrid.
Allerca founder Simon Brodie says the Ashera is a serval crossed with a purebred cat, the identity of which he declines to name. Subsequent females are then bred to another top-secret purebred (like most hybrids, first-generation males are sterile), and poof - you have an Ashera.
"The Ashera is primarily focusing on people who are not cat people, who have never thought of owning a cat. Our market research proves they would be interested in something large and unusual," Brodie says, adding that Asheras will reach 25 pounds. "Everybody likes the idea of a cat that has the size and markings of a little leopard."
Although Brodie acknowledges approaching Savannah breeders to buy breeding pairs (an undercover overture that was unsuccessful), "we're not breeding Savannahs, so I don't know what's irritating them so much."
Brigitte Cowell of Kirembo Cattery in San Francisco, who is the secretary and rescue coordinator of the Savannah Cat Club, says her peers come by their displeasure honestly.
"Crossing a serval with anything is a Savannah - it doesn't matter what kind of cat you've crossed it with," she says. "It's quite obvious that all this guy is doing is breeding Savannahs and calling them by a different name."
Brodie counters that Allerca is revolutionizing the "cottage industry" of cat breeding. "We provide the customer with much higher level of service, and we have the resources to ensure that any animal that we produce is consistent. That's the big difference."
Brodie says Allerca uses genetic markers to scientifically predict a kitten's size and markings in adulthood, something breeders can only guess at. He adds that he is able to cut corners with breeding to servals - which must be raised with their prospective domesticated mates in order to accept them - by using artificial insemination, ensuring "they never have to physically meet."
Cowell, who has a degree in microbiology, says Brodie "seems to have remarkable luck" in first locating genes for hypoallergenic qualities in the Allerca cats, then finding markers for genes controlling patterning and size in Asheras. She also points to the fact that Allerca has published none of its findings in peer-reviewed journals, and notes recently published accounts of Brodie's business dealings, which included lawsuits for defaulting on loans and eviction this year from Allerca's downtown headquarters, where Brodie also resided. (In response to questions about his past business difficulties, Brodie - who sold Allerca to an investment group and is now operating as a consultant - compared himself to thrice-bankrupt Henry Ford.)
As for artificial insemination, Brodie's success with it "is fascinating to the rest of us because not many people have achieved kittens," Cowell says. "He's doing a lot of firsts, I guess."
Although volumized breeding might carry with it associations of "kittymilling," Brodie says Allerca and Ashera kittens are tended to by full-time staff vets, are intensely socialized, and spayed and neutered before going to their new homes (arguably as much to control "copycats" as out of any concern for animal overpopulation). Brodie says franchisees will turn down customers who "don't sound right," and will accept unwanted cats back and place them in adoptive homes.
Concerns about McKitties aside, Cowell notes that a developing breed like the high-energy Savannah doesn't need anyone muddying the waters. As hybrid cat breeds continue to evolve, and new ones debut - keep an eye out for the Safari cat, based on the wild South American Geoffroy cat - she stresses that breeders need to focus on what differentiates these "wild-blooded" cousins, not on market share.
As for Allerca, stay tuned to see if the company is as adept at actually putting kittens on the ground as it is about hyping them.

[Addendum: This week, California's Department of Corporations ordered Brodie and Allerca to "desist and refrain" from offering or selling franchises until they were registered with the state.]

There are so many animals that need homes, it is hard to read this article. I also wonder if the breeding out of allergens, might also effect the immune system of the animals. Good for humans, but bad for the animals?

Psalm 22
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied;
they who seek the LORD will praise him—
may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth
will remember and turn to the LORD,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,
28 for dominion belongs to the LORD
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness
to a people yet unborn—
for he has done it.
Father Creator, if there ever was a Psalm that raised to You a cry for the poor unjust, and mourned the unfairness of suffering this is that Psalm, and yet we chose not to raise to you the first part of that Psalm--we chose the second half.
The second half says that in spite of life's suffering and disappointments --We trust in You !!(Christians, this is also the Psalm Jesus' prayed before he died. If ever there was unjust suffering, and yet complete trust--HIS was the truest example.)
So Father we lift our prayer to You tonight perhaps disappointed, perhaps fighting for the causes of those who cannot defend themselves, but always with trust in You. Of course we lift up Vivi, and Bowdee, and all the lost, sick, and homeless, and always these intentions to You...
We pray this night,Father, that You continue Your watch over Vivi,Vern, Bowdee(BRING HIM HOME FOR HIS BIRTHDAY Week!), Ticket,Tarik, Butttons,Biggie,Sniffles,Holly, African Grey, Faithful (the little girl's seizure dog),Shimi, Yorkie, Black Afghan, Buddy, Rags, Precious, Whippet Annie, so that not even “one paw slips”. Show them to the volunteer of Your choice so that they may return to their earthly families. Surprise us by sending Vivi home to a volunteer (Kathy from Bayside,Rosa,Tina,Gail T,Bonnie,Diane T.,Diane K-M,Darlene,Debbie,Monica,Lois T.,Nancy M,Barbara Jean,Linda S. and her husband Mike, or Renee? Margot or Irene?)
Many of us also have animals which need Your healing touch, Great Physician we lift to you for your healing Skittles, Barney, Tara (THANK YOU FOR THE HEALING THAT HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE),Joey,Meeko,Skeeter,Andi,Sparky,Scout,Dodge, Auggie,Billy,Ezme,Clarus,Star,Doogie, Prince the Sheltie, CJ, Dante, Felice, Max, Little McGee, Murphy, Mylie, Barbaro, Gunner, Linus, Kiva, Ellie,(restore all that had to be taken), Morgan, Little Andi, Nicki, Dude, Tucker, Brandy, Lexie, Isabella, Twin Kittens, Bowen, Pie Bird,Wanda and Heather.Enfold all of us in Your healing embrace.
We thank you for healing Maureen, and Zipper!! Thank You for Isabella's improving health!Thank You for McGee's weight gain.
We are frail Father and many of us need Your healing so that we can serve the purpose for which You have created us.
We lift up the following people in need of Your healing: Kathleen's Mom Mary, Renee, Pam,Millicent,Jacque, JL, Lance, Madison,Chris, and Abby.
God of Power, stand behind Tammie and Doogie, Duke and Denise, and Otis' followers, as they have stood behind these animals, until justice is done.Thank you for Ruby, and all the bloggers who bring these animals to our attention.Thank you so much for helping us find a good home for Kristy,Tashia, and Pablo, and help us to find a good home for Barney. Thanks for Duke's and Bobbie's new homes, let Tashia's new daddy provide her with a fair chance, and a good forever home.
Be with all who mourn tonight, especially Mary Blevin's family and friends, and Pookie's Mom. Give Mary the loving reward you have waiting for Your faithful servants. Let Pookie, and Henry sleep at your feet until heaven becomes home.Let two gentle elegant greys accompany You on Your walk through Paradise. Tell them how much we love them and want to see them someday. I'm sure Heavenly Father, You and Your angels could find all our buddies some "celestial snookies". Greet all, human and animal alike, who will make the journey to Paradise this night. Reward our faithful animal companions who have gone ahead. Let all who are homeless know Your love, and ours, too.
Send your angels and saints to work with Vivi's angels. These NYC volunteers, and their leaders;Tina,Rosa, and Bonnie, serve as Your compassionate presence on earth. Don't let them become discouraged. Let them know that prayer wise "we've got their back"!(GIVE THEM RESTFUL SLEEP TO RELIEVE THEIR ACHES AND PAINS AFTER THIS SEARCH WEEKEND!)
Let our faith grow as a result of this experience! Restore as we sleep, Heavenly Father, as we turn over the night watch to you! YOU ARE IN CHARGE! AMEN!

I have to say this everyone, and I mean no offense to those sincere animal psychics who have tried to help us, God does not give us speculation, or clues, or hints--He simply tells us to trust in Him, and even the most hopeless situation (and I don't believe ours is close to hopeless) will resolve itself for good!
Bless you for your faitfulness!

Amen Sharon. We can pray all day and night, but until we believe in our hearts that God will answer those prayers we may not see the final results of our prayers.

And yet, we must always be prepared for God to answer us in unexpected ways...His way.

Sure does. Even in a song!

I find it a little bit disconcerting, that when people try to think outside the box, they are attacked. I also find it interesting who is doing the attacking and who is missing in action.
I certainly would like to know who this searcher is that has had Vivi at their house, or shall I say Vivi's scent. It is possible to have scent transferred from another location - such as the true location of Vivi.
If anyone has any information that might be helpful, please e-mail me. Thank you.

And to follow up with Dianes request:
Please all focus on the foot search in Queens. That is the only practical and logical thing to do.
Smile!

Sorry; I had to get it right. Wish we had an edit but here. I did check it but the errors were from the lump in my throat and the tears thinking about the wedding without Vivi. Sorry we couldn't find her in time.:(

BJ, those are lovely thoughts on Jil and Rick's wedding day. I've been thinking about Jil and Rick today too. I'm really happy for them, but feeling sad because they had postponed the wedding for so many months hoping that Vivi would be there with them.

Psalm 112
Hallelujah!
Happy are those who fear the LORD,
who greatly delight in God's commands.
Their descendants shall be mighty in the land,
generation upright and blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in their homes;
their prosperity shall endure forever.
They shine through the darkness, a light for the upright;
they are gracious, merciful, and just.
All goes well for those gracious in lending,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
They shall never be shaken;
the just shall be remembered forever.
They shall not fear an ill report;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting the LORD.
Their hearts are tranquil, without fear,
till at last they look down on their foes.
Lavishly they give to the poor;
their prosperity shall endure forever;
their horn shall be exalted in honor.

I would like to thank the foot soldiers for keeping information to themselves concerning Vivi. I truly appreciate your honesty, integrity, and discretion concerning information. Vivi is only safe through the love of our Heavenly Dad and through the love and devotion of the Vivi team. The endless abuse that you have endured is truly shameful, disgraceful and flat out disgusting. You have endured so much pain and exhaustion and I guess it is not appreciated by some. But it IS appreciated by your Heavenly Dad and by Vivi. Your hearts are filled with such grace and mercy towards God and His creation. "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven." Matthew 5:10 This describes you to perfection God bless each and every one of you.

Psalm 9:9
The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed. A refuge in times of trouble.
Good morning Daddy God. How we thank and praise you for you are our refuge and shelter. You are our shield of mercy and goodness. It is you who is the wonder of our lives, the glory of our being, the beauty of the night and the brightness of the day. It is you who clothes us and it is you who provides and protects us. We have placed our lives in your tender and caring hands. We thank you for your tender care and blessings over Vivi. We thank you in advance for bringing Vivi into the arms of rescue today. We thank you for your mighty army whom you have chosen by your own hand to go forth and walk in the victory you have set before them. It is you and you alone who will bring this to pass. How we praise and glorify you!! Thank you for being a refuge for Vivi and for being a refuge for your army in the face of adversity and trials. You will bring them through in your everlasting glory and honor. We ask your blessings upon Zoey. Bring him health and a cure and bring him home to the arms and love of his family. Bring Vivi home to human companionship and love as we rejoice and look up to you with rejoicing in our hearts. We bring all of our loved ones to you in faith and assurance that you shall bring all good things to pass in our lives.

REMINDER EVERYONE: Please call today about the Horse Slaughter Bill. We need this one passed badly. Here is some info, and also here is a site for a lovely lady who rescues these beautiful animals from the kill pen as well. I have talked to Ginny, and she is incredible with horse and dog rescue. I just wanted everyone to see some of these beauties that were saved!

Time is quickly running out! Despite the election buzz, we must focus on the U.S. Senate to ensure that it will take action on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act before adjourning for the year.
Our next National Call-In Day for Horses is this Monday, Nov. 13, and we must flood Senate offices with phone calls, urging them to cosponsor S. 1915. Your calls have been instrumental in getting the bill through the House of Representatives and ready for Senate action, so help us push it past the finish line and end horse slaughter in America forever. Mark your calendars now.
Here's what you can do to help:
1. Make the call Nov. 13. Call your two current U.S. Senators—Bill Frist at (202) 224-3344 and Lamar Alexander at (202) 224-4944—or call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121. If you're not sure what to say, try this: "I am a constituent and I am calling to ask that the Senator immediately protect our horses from slaughter and cosponsor S. 1915, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. I am very concerned about American horses and I don't want them slaughtered."
2. Let us know you called. Follow up your phone calls by letting us know you called to support the end of horse slaughter in the United States. Click here to let us know you called.
Please take both steps! We must light up the phones in the Capitol because there already is very vigorous lobbying by the slaughter industry and its allies. We must counter them at every turn.
Please encourage your friends and family to make the call, too. Your calls will not only make a difference, they will help make history. Help us end horse slaughter in the United States forever.
Sincerely,

Vivi vision: 11-11-06
The woman brushes a strand of blond hair from her forehead. She places a bottle of chilled Pinot next to her computer. She turns up the volume of her CD player. She smiles as her favorite piano sonata fills the room. Then she clicks to Newsday Animal House blog and scans the posts.
Just keep believing Vivi is loose, that’s all I want, she thinks. When she spots the link to the drawing of the blond woman, she freezes. She gulps. Her heart thumps as sweat tics across her forehead. Oh no.
She clicks on the link and closes her eyes. She fears the worst, what if it really looks like me? When she opens her eyes, she laughs. Just a silly child’s drawing. Her shoulders relax. She sips wine. She savors the taste as it slides down her throat. “Thank you God, thank you for answering my prayers,” she says out loud. Her dog pricks her ears and leaves her soft pillow near the fireplace.
The blond woman’s hands are graceful with perfectly manicured French nails. She runs one slender finger along Vivi’s forehead. Vivi rests her head in the woman’s lap. The woman places the wine glass on the coffee table and clicks off her computer.
She kisses Vivi’s soft forehead. “I love you. I love you. They’ll never find you, never, you are all mine, mine forever,” she whispers into the dark.
End of vision.
Vivi is being taken for walks at night in a park – but I’ll tell you more about that later. God bless.

Sorry Pam - I've moved to the new post - all I said in my last post was to Nancy that I was sorry about Wanda and then I asked Kathleen how her mom was doing.
Posted by: Kathy in Colorado | November 13, 2006 at 11:27 AM
Thanks Kathy. I hope it can stay here. It was taking me a few minutes to get into the blog and then if I did post it was another few minutes before I could get back in again. If I hit refresh it was again more minutes so I was getting frustrated.

Nancy, What happened to Wanda? The blog is so
long, I must have missed it. I am very sorry for
your loss. Hugs and prayers are heading your way
Posted by: SueG | November 13, 2006 at 11:56 AM
Kathy - Sorry I missed your question too. I believe Mom is doing better (at least psychologically). The meds for the thyroid seem to also be making her feel better. I would still like for the oncologist to do that fine needle aspiration, but she is content for him to watch the thyroid for a while.
SueG - Wanda went to the Rainbow Bridge. Nancy, I am so sorry to hear about this. You and Wanda have my prayers.
Sedona - I know that woman in the vision is not me. Sitting here looking at my horrible hands while I type. I could sure use a nice French manicure (hee, hee), and a pedicure too!
Posted by: Kathleen Stephenson | November 13, 2006 at 12:13 PM
I know I'm off the hook, too. I haven't had a manicure in about 20 years.
Posted by: Pam in MN | November 13, 2006 at 12:18 PM
Well guys, I have the manicure but I'm far from blonde. Don't care for wine and I think my five-some would have spotted a wiley whippet amongst them by now.

Sedona, you are very cruel to post your vision describing a woman with Vivi and then end it by saying more later (about the walks at night). Please, please do not say such things unless you have a clear view of who and where this woman is with Vivi. I am sure I am not the only one who is in tears after reading your post.
Posted by: Mila | November 13, 2006 at 12:29 PM
Please forgive this long post, but all these issues are so important for these animals. Let's especially hit the dog-fighting issue too.
-----------------------------------------------
Dear Kathleen,
Our campaigns to abolish horse slaughter, stop animal fighting, and end the Canadian seal hunt are all at critical stages. With Congress returning today for its “lame-duck” session, we have just a few days left to push key bills over the finish line to protect horses and dogs. We are so close on both! And Canada’s baby seals received some good and bad news over the past few weeks. On the heels of our historic Election Day victories for farm animals and mourning doves, I want to update you on what is happening right now:
Call Today to Save America's Horses
In 2006 alone, America’s three foreign-owned slaughterhouses have sent more than 100,000 American horses to dinner tables overseas. To end this cruel slaughter, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act on September 7. But the U.S. Senate has just days to pass its version of the bill before it adjourns for the year. Time is running out, and a tragic accident involving a trailer carrying horses to slaughter underscores the need for the Senate to act now.
Today is our National Call-In Day for Horses, and we must flood Senate offices with phone calls, urging them to cosponsor the bill, S. 1915. Your calls and emails were instrumental in getting the bill through the House of Representatives and ready for Senate action. So please call your two current U.S. Senators -- Bill Frist at (202) 224-3344 and Lamar Alexander at (202) 224-4944 -- or call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to cosponsor the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. Click here if you need help on what to say, and to tell us that you called.
Urge the House to Clamp Down on Animal Fighters
Animal fighters involved in the brutal underground industry of dogfighting and cockfighting often make thousands of dollars in a single night. But when they illegally ship animals for fighting across state lines, a misdemeanor -- essentially a slap on the wrist -- is the only penalty they will possibly face.
The law must change, and the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act would make trafficking in fighting animals a felony, with stiffer penalties. The bill would also make it a crime to move cockfighting implements in interstate or foreign commerce. It's down to the wire for this bill, which passed the Senate unanimously but has been inexplicably bottled up in the House Judiciary Committee by Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI).
Please contact House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and urge him to bring this critical legislation, H.R. 817, to the floor for an up-or-down vote immediately. The bill is supported by the American Veterinary Medical Association, National Sheriffs' Association, and more than 400 state and local law enforcement agencies. It’s also co-sponsored by three quarters of the entire House, making the delay unconscionable. It’s time for the House of Representatives to pass this bill.
Stop Canada's Massive Seal Hunt
First, the good news: In a historic move, the European Union recently passed a declaration calling for a ban on all trade in harp and hooded seal products. This is a crucial step toward closing off one of the major markets for the Canadian commercial sealing industry. In addition, more than 330,000 consumers and more than 1,000 restaurants, grocery stores, and other seafood distributors have joined a boycott of Canadian seafood -- a boycott that we hope will show Canadian fishermen that they cannot afford to continue killing baby seals.
Now the bad news: Canada intends to place more restrictions on the legal and peaceful observation of the commercial seal hunt in 2007. The Canadian government knows the horrific images of this hunt are closing markets for Canadian seal products and Canadian seafood around the world -- and that is why it is determined to stop observers from filming the seal hunt. But these cynical attempts to conceal cruelty will fail. If the 2007 seal hunt goes ahead, our ProtectSeals team will be there to show the world what the Canadian government is so desperate to hide. With your help, we will end the barbaric hunt forever.
Thank you for taking action today, and for all you do for animals.
Sincerely,
Wayne Pacelle

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of Wanda and ask for courage and blessings for Nancy—she’s had a very difficult weekend. We bring you our thanks for Wanda who lived among us and gave us freely of her love. We commit our little rat friend and companion [Wanda into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

Nancy, my prayers are with you.

Thanks you for your kind words about Wanda...She paased away peacefully at 1:01 AM after a struggle lasting about a day. A friend of mine from childhood reminded me that Wanda died being loved by others, which is a gift that we know very few creatures (including many humans) are not given. And that is a comforting truth. She was my favorite in my current mischief ( group) and even in times of pain or fear , she never once nipped although she could have. We all have had others criticize us for giving "so much" to our companion animals, yet we know that we get back so much more from them, even the little ones.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Nancy. Wanda is now another angel to watch over Vivi and all the other lost and sick animals. Our companion animals are all family members and I feel so sorry for people who can't understand that. They don't realize what they are missing.

"Our companion animals are all family members and I feel so sorry for people who can't understand that. They don't realize what they are missing."
Amen Lois T. I can have had the "worse day" in the world, but when I drive in and Tinkerbell is watching out the window for me (so excited) my day becomes the "best day" in the world. The joy that little girl brings into my life can never be expressed in words!

Nancy - I am sorry for your loss. I'm sure she had a good life. I have to admit that Wanda would have not been a first choice of mine as a companion pet, but then I'd be judging you the way others judge me when they think I'm nuts about my critters. I hope I have learned not to be so judgmental with others since I've found this blog. I did have gerbils and a guinea pig growing up so I did have some stranger critters too in my life. All my best to you.

You are all right. It's me that is cruel by talking to the searchers night and day, by keeping the phone under my pillow and by drawing picture for them, and being blamed for holding back visions and being blamed for not seeing things fully but still trying and for what - then for getting my feelings hurt for being unfairly criticized - seems that happens to us all - but when I object, then I am evil and cruel and more than just wrong. I have become a monster to most of you and I'm tired of trying to help Vivi and still being hated. Goodbye.

SEDONA: I have never posted to you or had any contact with you until now but I can hear your pain and I am so sorry. I don't think you deserve to feel like this. Even tho I may not always be in sync with what you say, I really think you have Vivi's interest at heart and that is what counts.

So many of the little critters have a short life span. I swore I'd never buy another Hamster after my daughter's little, Sweet Pea died.
Rats make great pets, but they are short lived too.
I had a friend who had a rat for 3 years, she rescued him from a Columbian Boa's cage. Neat little guy.
Posted by: ruby | November 13, 2006 at 05:41 PM
I work in a pet store, and the rats we had were so sweet. My children loved them too. The only thing is we all had an allergic reaction to them, when they walked on us. Rats are great pets though.
Posted by: Kim | November 13, 2006 at 05:45 PM
What's the average life span for a rat? 3 years?
I assume you gathered by my post above that I'm not particularly fond of rats. I have heard many times over that rats can make wonderful pets but there's is something that I just can't quite get over... same with snakes. I have thought about a ferret as a pet.
Posted by: Pam in MN | November 13, 2006 at 05:55 PM
Sedona has her visions and thoughts. I think it is a fairy tale to believe that Vivi is living the life of the rich and famous with this person in the vision. But that is my feeling. Everyone has a right to believe and think what they want.
My own personal thoughts are that a lot of the Vivi sightings were not her at all, just another dog that might be the same color. Non-dog people just don't understand one breed from another, I know you all determined that long ago.
Again, those are my thoughts and I still hope that she is well.
This has been a very hard journey for everyone involved.
I am sure there will be some good to come from it, there always is....
Posted by: Linda NH | November 13, 2006 at 06:05 PM
Sedona, no offense was meant- just a plea to stop posting your visions that are heart-rending unless you can also give some suggestion as to how these visions can be investigated. Posting that a woman has Vivi and has no intention of giving her up does little except cause pain.
My apologies for calling you cruel-I don't think you are, just perhaps your delivery at times. And so was mine.

Heartfully sorry for your loss of Wanda. May the knowledge that she no longer suffers bring you comfort at this time.

While I'm definitely a bird/cat/dog person, this website is a delightful look into what it's like to love and be loved by a pet rat: http://mypetrat.com/
I've only had my cat McGee for three years, but would be devastated if anything happened to him. They all live too short a time. I think it's a special gift to see the beauty and love in all animals.
Posted by: Sharon (MI) | November 13, 2006 at 07:07 PM
Sedona,
Heheheheh....
Thanks for posting that vision of yours, it reminded me that anyone who KNOWINGLY has Vivi would be guilty of GRAND THEFT which is a FELONY that subjects the guilty party to major jail time!
I think it's a 15 year minimum prison sentence and any accomplices are usually subjected to a likewise punishment by law.
Vivi's not just any dog honey....she's a BEST in SHOW Winning AKC CHAMPION of record and she is a producer of champions that is still in her prime!
Therefore she has a current market value of approximately $25,000, which is likely to increase due to endorsements once she is returned to her owners....either way....her initial current market value amount alone makes it felony grand theft for someone to knowingly keep her.
Guess this charmed life you've gleamed isn't so charming after all....the poor dog would never be able to leave the house ever! What a shame that would be, when she could be back with her owners playing on Jill dad's horse ranch....ever see those videos of how much fun she had running and playing outdoors? They are indeed a beautiful sight to behold....
So if you're gleaming is correct then Vivi is a prisoner for life of some foolish woman's selfishness....never to see the sunlight again or run freely, that's not a charmed life at all for a dog like Vivi or for any dog for that matter.
And don't think for one minute this woman in your mind's eye would risk taking her out at night for walks......aside from the jail time she'll receive if caught....there's no telling when someone might recognize her and report it for the $5,000 reward!
LOL So thanks for the reminder Sedona, I've just corrected my website to include this aspect:

Diane KM love that !!! I like the part where the eyes are "dazed" ain't that the truth ...
La la land, love that too, been there a few times but only for a little while :) Well keeping the faith on this gloomy , rainy , cold day. Also praying for the safe return of those dogs that were stolen. Have a good night all :)

Diane: What if Vivi was taken out of state? have you considered that one? then no one would know who she is.
Posted by: Rosa | November 13, 2006 at 08:03 PM
Since that's a possible scenario, I think it would be a good idea to mail and fax vets far and wide and maybe get her in a national veterinarian publication or newsletter... with photos showing both sides of her. National exposure can only help I think.
Posted by: Susan | November 13, 2006 at 08:09 PM
Diane KM, I know where this person is, she's on Broadway in NYC. Who could forget that face it's Little Orphan Annie and her dog. Do we need to send flyers to the theatre district.
Sedona I for one have never called you a monster or evil, and you know that's the truth. We know you have worked with alot of us here and have sent drawings, that we do not deny, but when you come on here and call us monkeys that in my eyes is being evil to us. You tell us searchers one thing in emails and phone calls and then your visions go off the deep end on the blog. Someone who has a clear vision does not keep changing their story to pacify people.
Posted by: Debbie | November 13, 2006 at 08:10 PM
There is another option which was the reason for my posted plea a couple of weeks ago. Mail a note with a few simple words letting us know Vivi is safe and loved. Enclose a picture of Vivi, so we know it is true. The note can be mailed from anywhere, a simple photo taken with a disposable camera and even typed from a library computer...that's about as untraceable as I can think of. Send it to Bonnie or Denise Flaim or send it to me, whoever you pick is fine, just please do it!
Personally, I have NO need to see anyone punished or recriminations. I don't need to know why, who or where this might have been done. For me, it is ONLY about VIVI'S WELL BEING AND IS SHE SAFE AND OFF THE STREETS. THAT'S IT...END OF STORY. I realize some people disagree, you have every right to do that, but I also have a right to say what will work for me....just tell me VIVI IS SAFE AND LOVED.
Please, IF someone has or had her, if you've moved her to a safe place with loving people, LET US KNOW, or at least, please LET ME KNOW!
I continue to pray that God will help you to make the right decision, end the agony for the rest of us and give us all peace.
Posted by: Irene Wilson | November 13, 2006 at 08:13 PM
WHY does moving her out of state sound so impossible? If someone found Vivi, that knew EXACTLY who she was, and for whatever reason did'nt want to return her, could have easily passed her off to a friend or family memeber out of state. They wouldn't risk keeping her in New York.
Posted by: Rosa | November 13, 2006 at 08:18 PM
Sedona-
Don't let the antics of a few determine how you feel about yourself. If others do things just to be hurtful it is their own problem. If you want to post your thoughts and visions, do so with the realization that some will object and some will make fun of it. You don't get notoriety and publicity without those drawbacks. I'm sure you know this. Pay no attention to what you disagree with. Others cannot make you feel bad or degrade your work if you do not let them.
But we also have to be willing to laugh at ourselves. I thought the drawings were humorous. I did not take them as an attack on you no matter the intent of the presenter.
I'm not psychic but I get hunches that pay off once in a while too. There are times I "just know" things and have no idea where they come from. If I decided to concentrate on developing it and publishing those thoughts or offering my services in that area, then I would have to acknowledge that some will think I am just a bit off.
Keep on keeping on with your postings and develop a thicker skin. Many like to read your thoughts even if they don't exactly agree
Posted by: Libby | November 13, 2006 at 08:54 PM
Sedona, have you thought of finding a website where you could post the "Real" drawing that you have composed? I was under the impression that some of the searchers were working with you. Anything could help at this point! Your vision of Vivi laying by a warm fire, actually made me feel happy for her. Id rather listen to that vision, then the one the "Troll" posted a few nights ago.
Posted by: Rosa | November 13, 2006 at 09:00 PM
There probably are people who would want her just for a trophy, because of her notoriety. It would somehow increase their warped sense of self importance. And there are people who might want her just to breed her--they could breed her and use some other dog's papers to sell the pups or get just one standout puppy for themselves. Also don't assume everyone in the show world knows who she is and exactly what she looks like-- even whippet people. It depends on where she has been campaigned heavily.
I think there could be more than a few brindle and white whippet bitches in the show rings. I posted a month ago about seeing one at a show in Ohio and she was marked a lot like Vivi though I've only seen the stacked pictures of her left side facing the camera. I have no idea what the other side looks like. I go to a few shows here and there and now always notice the whippets.
Posted by: Libby | November 13, 2006 at 09:09 PM
LIBBY:
Thanks for your calm and thoughtful posts. There are many reasons she could have been taken and the decision made to keep her. What does it really matter at this point? Does it make sense to threaten a person and drive them further underground so we NEVER know what has happened to our little Vivi? It makes NO sense to me at all.
I know many people would feel a tremendous sense of relief and gratitude to KNOW that Vivi is safe, loved, warm and has a forever home with a loving person. That's what really matters, doesn't it?
We are all praying for her to be safe. Let's hope that is the case.
Peace and love to our little whippet, wherever she is.

I agree 100% with your post. It certainly was more comforting to read that scenario than the disgusting post referring to Vivi in a searcher's trunk and some people thinking there was humor in that...I sure didn't see it!

Hi Pam: The books give the average life span of a rat around 1 1/2 to 2 years, sometimes three. I've had a few that hit 4 or a little over. But I'm, careful what they eat, etc (I should be so careful with myself LOL)...The fur of the females is very soft and most rat-crazy people will tell you it smells kike grape soda. I had pet mice growing up and I was always kind of afraid of rats. I first got to know them in Vet Tech school, where you have to take a horrid course called Research Animal Technology Science (acronym RATS). I think every person in my class became a rat lover, those who could took one or more home. Two of the women were married to guys who said NO WAY, and they both ended up being totaly besotted. I still think domestic mice are adorable but rats are the most popular {pocket pets) Many of us are in the closet, I learned to keep quiet about them the hard way LOL.

Hey Rosa, Sedona had worked with us for over 4 months here with emails and has sent us a drawing once and we did look at all place to find it, I have said in the past some of her visions have been right on and we have found them believe it or not.She hit on the area of a sighting before we even found it, well lo and behold we found it when the dogs were in. We may not have found them as soon as we would like but turning on some of us when we have been working together was not called for. We have had a good relationship but when one thing is told to us and then something different is put on the blog it makes us wonder here who are out on foot, do we look for the visions or read what is put on the blog.

I have always thought rats were cute and love to watch them at the pet store - my friends cringe when they find out I think they are cute. In fact my neighbor gets upset when I tell her I would never put a trap in the garage - I would love to have one for a pet but know nothing about them or how the dogs would be with them.

My family had a pet rat when I was younger. My sister resued her when she was in college. In one of her classes, they were teaching the rats to go through mazes, but when the class was over, the professor told the students that the rats were going to be destroyed. Well, my sister would have no part of that and brought her rat home. Her name was Saturn and she was the cutest albino rat - pure white. She was very friendly and would love to sit on my shoulder. She was really very loving.

Oh Lo, did you hear that I have not claimed the Klutz #1 title from you and Darlene. I tripped over my big cat, Booger yesterday. Doing okay, just my feelings hurt and some soreness.
My boss got the biggest laugh today when I told him I tripped over the cat. He just said, "Kathy, only you would do that!"

Glad you're ok Kathleen. I trip over Betty Boop all the time. She's follows me around like a shadow and is always under my feet. Most of the time I manage to catch myself before I fall, but sometimes I accidentally step on the Boop's paw. I feel so bad when I do that!!!!

Psalm 24- Lord, This is the People who long to see Your Face!
They will receive blessings from the LORD,
and justice from their saving God.
Such are the people that love the LORD,
that seek the face of the God of Jacob."
Father, Creator, Be with us in these discouraging gray days of late Fall. Help us to find the light of Your love--to see Your Face! Create a miracle that will return Vivi to Rick and Jil, and create a jubilant NYC and nationwide group who would celebrate her homecoming. Be with Ann the former "Mom" of the doxies. Hold her in Your arms until it's time for her to return to You. Comfort and bless those who mourn, Especially Mariah, and Chester's families, and Wanda's Nancy. Bless those who see the beauty in all Your animals. In confidence tonight, we lift our prayers to You...
We pray this night,Father, that You continue Your watch over Vivi,Zoey,Vern,Bowdee,Ticket,Tarik, Butttons,Biggie,Sniffles,Holly, African Grey, Faithful (the little girl's seizure dog),Shimi, Yorkie, Black Afghan, Buddy, Rags, Precious, Whippet Annie, so that not even “one paw slips”.
Many of us also have animals which need Your healing touch, Great Physician we lift to you for your healing Skittles, Barney, Tara, Joey,Meeko,Skeeter,Andi,Sparky,Scout,Dodge, Auggie,Billy,Ezme,Clarus,Star,Doogie, Prince the Sheltie, CJ, Dante, Felice, Max, Little McGee, Murphy, Mylie, Barbaro, Gunner, Linus, Kiva, Ellie,(restore all that had to be taken), Morgan, Little Andi, Nicki, Dude, Tucker, Brandy, Lexie, Isabella, Twin Kittens, Bowen, Pie Bird, and Heather.Enfold all of us in Your healing embrace.
We thank you for healing Maureen, and Zipper!! Thank Your for the improvement in Gail's Dude.Thank You for Isabella's improving health!Thank You for McGee's weight gain.
We are frail Father and many of us need Your healing so that we can serve the purpose for which You have created us.
We lift up the following people in need of Your healing: Kathleen's Mom Mary, Renee, Pam,Millicent,Jacque, JL, Lance, Madison,Chris, and Abby.
God of Power, stand behind Tammie and Doogie, Duke and Denise, and Otis' followers, as they have stood behind these animals, until justice is done.Thank you for Ruby, and all the bloggers who bring these animals to our attention.Thank you so much for helping us find a good home for Kristy,Tashia, and Pablo,11 doxies, and the Halloween bunch, and help us to find a good home for Barney. Thanks for Duke's and Bobbie's new homes.
Be with all who mourn tonight, especially Mariah, and Chester's families, and Wanda's Nancy. Give Mary the loving reward you have waiting for Your faithful servants.Allow Chester, and Mariah a warm place on Your feet until heaven becomes home. Find Wanda a pocket or a fold in Your robe so she can ride around heaven in a place of importance. Great St Martin de Porres would probably enjoy meeting her, too.
Let them know that prayer wise "we've got their back"!Bless Jil and Rick's marriage.
Let our faith grow as a result of this experience! Restore as we sleep, Heavenly Father, as we turn over the night watch to you! YOU ARE IN CHARGE! AMEN!

Hey Lo, poor Boop don't break her paw, someone stepped on my sisters dogs paw when she was a pup and broke it, she was only 8 weeks old an had to be casted for 6 weeks, pretty pink cast, poor think the cast was bigger then her. Believe it or not i trip over my huge monster here, how could you not see that thing, you've seen her Lo, go figure.
Hey kathleen, glad you are ok, be careful you don;t want to break something, you are now part of the official vivi search team falling down, I have not fallen yet, tripped a few times, got stuck in mud and tangled in sticky bushes with thorns, and got locked out of my car when it was running one night in a bad area and almost lost my keys with darlene.

R.I.P. little Wanda, I'm lighting candles for you all the time.

I mentioned St. Martin de Porres, sometimes I think people automatically know the reference I'm making.
"On the lighter side, often we see St.Martin pictured in his Dominican habit holding a broom, with a mouse and dog at his feet. There is an interesting anectdote about mice. One time there seemed to be a mouse "convention" in the wardrobe room of the monastery, where they feasted on the finest linen garments and sheets, leaving the old ones untouched. Some of the monks wanted to poison the rodents, but Martin would not hear of it. One day he caught a little mouse and held him gently, and said, "Little brother, why are you and your companions doing so much harm to the things belonging to the sick? Look; I shall not kill you, but you are to assemble all your friends and lead them to the far end of the garden. Everyday I will bring you food if you leave the wardrobe alone," After Martin let go of the mouse, there was scurrying from every nook and cranny and the procession started towards the monastery garden. Martin, tall and slender, with long strides, led the mice to their new home. Everyday he brought them a meal and no mouse ever set claw or tooth in the monastery wardrobe."

I never really step too hard on Boop's paw - she's too quick. And then five minutes later she's back at my feet again - "Me And My Shadow"!!! I love her more than anything!!!
And Deb - I'd rather fall once than do all the stuff you just mentioned!!!! Locked the keys in the car with it running? Ha!!! That's why I bought a truck with a keypad entry in addition to the key!!!! I'll never lock myself out again!!
Nancy - I just watched that animation - it's beautiful and I cried like a baby!!!!

You're kidding right?
Vivi's been in the media from coast to coast....she's been on Nationwide news broadcasts on every major TV station and it's affiliate stations across the country numerous times since she's been lost. She's also been in People magazine, and major newspapers across the USA. Just last week she was in a Nationwide dog publication, she's been mentioned on The View which is a national TV show and she's bound to be featured in the news periodically and in various nationwide publications as long as she is not recovered. She's also on the world wide web, on message boards, on mailing lists, etc.
Billions of american's are dog lovers, her story has touched everyone of them....
LOL So you still don't think that people outside NYS do not know her, then ask yourself.....How do all the out of state bloggers here know about her?

It's horrible about the stolen show dogs. I hope they are found very soon and the people who did it face the consequences. But I'm reading that it's alright if someone has Vivi and doesn't want to give her back. What's with the double standard here? Vivi has an owner who finally had her wedding without her beloved dog there. I couldn't stop thinking about that on Saturday. Stealing is a crime and more adults who should know better are stealing animals left and right. In Southeastern CT, a pit bull was stolen from a dog pound a few months ago. They think it was the woman who wanted to adopt her and was refused. A pit bull is never placed with young children and the pound does not adopt to military families since they could be transferred to an area where pets can't be taken and other relatives back out of caring for them. The animal control officers have seen that happen over and over. But since the family is Navy, no information could be acquired from the base. I contacted my Navy friends to see if they could help. This dog hasn't been found and the AC Officer is very upset over this. A dog was stolen because an adult? couldn't accept the decision. This makes me sick.

This blog is a microscopic segment of the nation's population. I can promise you many people out here in the boonies outside of NYC do not know who Vivi is. They don't know what Westminster is. They don't know what a whippet is. Many don't even care about any lost dogs or shelter dogs or abused dogs.
I'm the only one in my family who knows who she is and they are all people who have dogs.

Irene,
No one is threatening the person who you imagine may have her. The laws are clear on this. Vivi has owners who want her back! Anyone who keeps her knowing this is committing a crime.....end of story....so don't kill the messenger.
The laws exist for all of our protection and they need to be respected.
I know I sure as hell would prosecute anyone who knowingly had one of my beloved pets and tried to keep them. No one has the right to put someone through the grief of not knowing what became of their pet....heck no one has the right to take and keep anyone's property. A pet is the property of it's owner....just because she is lost does not mean the owner has no right to it.
The bottom line is that it's selfish and morally wrong for anyone to keep an animal that is wanted by their owners.
Libby, her pups have no value without papers. A trophy is something one keeps to show off....can't show off a stolen or wanted dog without consequences.
Chrissy, Debbie.....glad you've enjoyed the site, nice to see that some folks get the point. :)
Satire can be a wonderful education tool, when it's read by people with open minds and a sense of humor.

I was thinking about that too Susan when I went out looking for her on Saturday.....what a wedding present it could have been to have found her that day! Needless to say when I finally had to return home I felt worse than usual....
People who have never been out looking for her don't know what it feels like to search until you're exhausted, to keep pushing yourself thinking:
"Let me just try driving by that park one more time, let me just go a few more blocks this way, maybe she'll be around the next corner, or down that block, or up that alley, or under those shrubs or behind that garage, inside that construction site, alongside that school, over by those bags of garbage, near those RR tracks, should I go pass the cemetery one more time, or the last sighting again, or the one before that, or the hole in the fence by that highway, or the other highway, etc., etc."
Again and again and again you go though this until finally your eyes are blurry, your whole spine, neck and shoulders are stiff & painful, your throat and lips are parched from whistling and making kissing sounds and talking to pedestrians along the way...hoping maybe they saw her, and you're also parched from talking to her....saying things like: "Come on little girl, please show yourself" and "Dear God please lead me to her"....and finally....as much as you hate to....you have to admit defeat and call it a day or a night and you drive home crying, feeling like you failed her....I have said out loud many times: "I'm so sorry Vivi" as I've cried my way home....it's a sad lonely drive home with nothing left to do but pray that next time will be the one before it's too late......
Then you come home beaten, depressed, but before turning in, you flick on the computer hoping maybe....just maybe someone else found her....and then you read stuff here that just twists a knife right into you and crushes the very last ounce of spirit you had left in you....real nice....
Moral support is so very important in a situation such as this....the negativity has become beyond disgraceful here lately....should the day come when no one goes out to look for her anymore you'll have nobody to blame but some of the self centered wonders and those that enjoy playing twisted head games on this blog....my words are strong & harsh with good reason....there's only so much a human being can endure.....think about it....
To those of you who have supported us...bless you...g'nite
