A year later
A year ago today, the disappearance of a pretty little wisp of a whippet prompted me to use this blog to help keep people up to date on rescue efforts. It became inextricably linked with this spunky little show dog, who had a knack for capturing hearts as effortlessly as she did ribbons.
A year later, and still no Vivi. But in the meantime, this blog has become a place for dog lovers to come for the latest news -- even if that is that there is no news.
I still leave room for the hope that a page-one "Vivi Found" story lurks around the bend. I hope you do, too, if only because it's nice to believe in happy endings -- and to believe in believing.

That would be a fantastic headline.
Keeping the faith for VIVI in Texas

I'm still waiting for that headline...
Kathy (CO) glad you had some good news today.

The person who has Vivi has to come clean. Look at what people are reduced to, they are lighting fake candles.
Posted by: Blable | February 15, 2007 at 12:59 PM
Blable and you're using a fake name...whats your point oh great doom and gloomer? You need to go do some work before you get fired...Big bro is watching you!
I'd hate to see you without a computer, you'd be lost.
Posted by: ruby | February 15, 2007 at 01:38 PM
This has been a sad day for me... thanks Denise for keeping it on a positive note. I still have hope for the happy ending! That headline will be such a wonderful sight to see!
Posted by: Susan | February 15, 2007 at 01:47 PM
I will do what I can to help make that headline appear. Miracles have happened to animals and children this year already. Giving up is not an option.
Posted by: Susan Lorinsky | February 15, 2007 at 02:02 PM
Ok "Ruby" I'll make a note on my to-do list to fire myself. I'll be sure to reprimand myself at my next annual review. Why would I be lost without my computer? I'm not the idiot lighting virtual candles for hours on end.

GOOD NEWS FROM VALERIE:
Hello Everyone,
Today is an exciting day. Today is my anniversary with Dante. Five years ago today, I was driving half way to Los Angeles (260ish miles 1 way) to pick up Dante. I am SO EXCITED to be able to share this with everyone.
Dante is doing FABULOUSLY! He is now back to his ideal weight and continues to want to steal Zipper's puppy food and put on more weight. lol His hair is slowly growing back. He is full of life and even enjoyed a 3 mile walk with his brothers and I on Tuesday. We may repeat that again today if time permits. For the first mile or so he pulled the entire time because we were walking near a field that there were squirrels to be hunted. lol I am so happy he is doing so well. I am even finding that since the surgery, he is even more affectionate and cuddly than before. I just love it! Below is a picture of Dante that I just took this morning. He has so much life in his gorgeous eyes and face.
Trotter is doing well also. He and Zipper have multiple play sessions each day. Dante is also starting to partake in these sessions again. Trotter is learning to play well and goes right back at Zipper when Zipper punches him. Yes, I did say punch. Zipper is a little boxer with his front legs. Yesterday Zipper got me in the eye with his nose. Anyone around him has to be on alert at all times. lol
Zipper is continuing to get car sick. I have been advised to take him to a dog chiropractor in hopes that an adjustment to his C1-2 might fix any issues he may have with his inner ear that could be causing the problem. If any of you have taken you dog to a dog chiropractor could you please email me and tell me about your experience. Thank you. If anyone knows of a GOOD dog chiropractor in the Bay Area (CA) that would be appreciated as well.
Happy belated Valentine's Day to all. Have a great weekend.
One VERY HAPPY whippet Mommie!
(I wish you could all see the picture of Dante that Valerie attached--he's healthy, gorgeous, and serene! This is definitely one of our miracle stories!)

This blog has seen many happy endings for other dogs along the way, I'm still believing that a miracle will happen for Vivi, too. There are no adequate words DENISE, to express our thanks to you for the good your blog has done!

Give us a hint Blable, are you self employed? Do you work in real estate? Are you in the GREAT NORTHWEST?
Does anyone give a hoot about you or your well being?
Will be be lonely like you are now, for the rest of your life.
It's sad that you don't light candles..it might keep you off the streets and out of the blog..........
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I'm going to light a "pretend" candle for you Blable, you need all the help you can get, real or imagined. I'm going to pretend you're a good person and not the scum you act like.

Has anyone heard how Spit McGee is doing? He's the sick little feline that has a candle site and I'd love to hear from his mom if he's feeling any better. Just lit some candles for him (sorry, Blable, it's my way of spending a few minutes asking for God's help)and would love to have an update on him.
Thanks...

oh shut up!!! this is an emotional day for everyone involved and who cares about Vivi. our nerves and hands are raw. can't you have compassion for one day and just be civil?
I doubt you have or ever had any interest in OUR girl or you would NEVER act this way toward people who are on the verge of crying at any second. how dare you make this day even worse.
it has been an entire year of backbreaking and heartbreaking work looking for her and we don't need anymore crap making today more miserable than it already is. i wonder how big your mouth would be in 18 degree weather with your hands, ears and face raw from setting out food, water, snacks.... TODAY - YES, STILL GOING TODAY.
and in rosa's infamous words that i have never borrowed but will today, "VIVA LA VIVI!!!!" NY girls WILL find you, Angel - this will be the only sad anniversary in your life.
and to everyone who has helped us in the past year with everything, anything - THANK YOU DOESN'T SAY ENOUGH.

You need to pull yourself together and get your head on straight. Your screed shows how out of control this search has gotten. How long do you intend to keep this up? 1 month, 6 months, another year? No one asked you to search. No one is asking for you to continue the search. No one is responsible for your feelings except for you. Fake candle lightings and all the other hystrionics that go on here are not bringing Vivi back. It is going to be purely luck of the draw whether she is found or not. A bunch of hysterical women running around Queens is not helpful. You've been able to help other animals and that's great. You need to reassess. This is out of control.
Posted by: Blable | February 15, 2007 at 03:57 PM
DARLENE: We are the ones who should be Thanking You, Rosa, Tina, Bonnie, B-J, Debbie,Monica and the rest of the foot soldiers. You are right-this is the last anniversary Vivi will be out there alone. Next year at this time with God's help she will be home. You may mock us Blable but it's you who makes a mockery of the word Human Being.

IGNORE and they go away
Posted by: Kathy in Colorado | February 15, 2007 at 04:02 PM
Since searching for Hopey I have a new found respect for the Vivi searchers. I have fallen out of my car, frozen off my hands, stepped in water in freezing temps, stapled my jacket to the tree with my arm still in it, dropped ketchup all over my pants while eating my supper while driving and dumped a whole cup up soda in my lap not to mention being pulled over by the cops for driving slow with a flashlight aimed at peoples yards. But non compare to Hopey's owner that wet her pants during an asthma attack on the run.
And we won't talk about the jaunts thru the cemeteries and the greenhouses...
Oh yes, when there is time I light those senseless candles because we can use all the help we can get.
Posted by: Gail | February 15, 2007 at 04:03 PM
Has Hopey been spotted lately?

Yes, on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's call came in two days later if they had placed that call immediately I could have been there in under 3 mins I was on the other street looking for her.

Blable really got under my skin this time. Enough already with his/her negativity and snide comments and opinions that have no value on this site. May he/she move on and learn some basic manners and compassion and understanding.

Hi Mila--Yes they do that to us on and off for some weird reasons like boredom or something!
Did you see the Vivi bags?? They are so cute and I hope people will get noticed on the bags and get more interest in finding Vivi soon and hope the phone calls will be ringing again!!

My most heartfelt, sincere and giant sized THANK YOU to TEAM VIVI for enduring this past year and never, ever giving up or giving in to negativity! For always keeping the faith as I know you do today. You are one DREAM TEAM!!! And, none of us on this blog can even begin to imagine what you have been through, sacrificed and laid on the line for our beloved Vivi! This is certainly one heartwrenching, gut-wrenching day for all of us who really care and have cared more than could be believed for one full year. Amazing. Without you, the search for Vivi would be no where. TEAM VIVI -- you girls rock!
For those of you who persist in playing in this positive sandbox with your negative crap, remember a couple of things: 1/ this blog has not made it this far, or this search this far, by listening to your crap. Positive energy, creativity and the will to make it happen... to bring BVivi home... no matter what have kept this blog and effort going. You can't sink us, and many multiple personalities have tried (maybe you're one of them, Blable?) so go play somewhere else; we're tough; 2/ didn't your Mommy teach you the basic adage in life? "What goes around comes around"? Trust that you will be repayed for your negativity in life just when you MOST need support, love, strength and positive energy and even strangers to help you. What goes around comes around.... sing that mantra.
To all of you caring, wonderful, amazing people supporting Team Vivi and the search, this is a tough, emotional day.... and I'm going over to light some more candles!
Keeping the Faith from Day One, February 15, 2006, trying to help, keeping the positive energy, and thanking you all from the botton of my heart!!!! I'll say it, too... Viva La Vivi! Marnie in CA

Vivi to a safe place. Love you little woman! (0;

EXCUSE THE CAPS:
Everyone, I have been trying to think of a way to raise Gina's spirits (Madison's Mom). I think I have it. I am getting ready to send her the link to the "B+ candle group" for Madison to read the sweet messages.
If you have not posted a message for Madison and her family, I would very much appreciate your adding one. This will mean a lot to Gina I believe. And she needs it right now more than ever. Thank you.
Martha, Susan and Mila, you messages are so sweet on there. I cried as I read many of them. Thank you so much.

EVERYONE, Vivi's candles are dropping really fast and are below 6800....please join me in trying to bring them up a little. Tonight, of all nights, let's let Vivi know WE ARE ALL STILL HERE, HOPING AND PRAYING FOR HER.
C'mon, Vivi, follow the love and lights. Come to an angel...come home to us, little girl!

Hi Gang -
It has been a somber day for me, as I'm sure it's been for all of us. I never in my life would have thought Vivi would still be out there after a year. A wonderful group of people have banded together to help out little girl, AND WE WILL SUCCEED!!!! Vivi, sweetheart, please feel our love and let yourself be caught!!!!! It's time to go home!
Thank you to EVERYONE doing ANYTHING to help Vivi!!!! You are all wonderful!!!

I just got this from Marther and wanted to share::
Dear Lord,
So far today I'm doing all right.
I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy. grumpy, nasty, selfish,or self-indulgent. I have not whined, complained, cursed, or eaten any chocolate. I have charged nothing on my credit card.
I'll be getting out of bed in a minute and I think that I will really need your hlep then.
Posted by: ruby | February 15, 2007 at 07:09 PM
Irene,
I hope you don't mind, I gave Jeanine - Spitty's mom your e-mail. She is so grateful to you and the many others who have worked so hard at keeping his candle site going (hint, hint) she was doing it on her own for quite a while. She and Spit think you are the greatest. He is status quo (he has cardiomyopathy), she thinks he can feel the love.
She also strongly believes that since God has used Vivi to help so many other animals, that He will personally (using Team Vivi, of course) see that Vivi goes home to Jil.
Posted by: Sharon (MI) | February 15, 2007 at 07:13 PM
Sharon,I hope Spit will live a long time with the treatment he's getting. I'm wondering if you knew the reason he was named Spit? Cute name, but why? haaaaaaaa... (I should talk, I had a cat named Kiddy Meat!)....I'm lighting candles once again for little Spit. I got all taken up in the Vivi candle fever!
Posted by: ruby | February 15, 2007 at 07:27 PM
Kathleen, Give Madison's family my love and I alwasys have Madison in my prayers. Madison has a child's tenacity and resiliency. She can overcome these obstacles and regain all she has lost.
To Team Vivi, thank you for never giving up on our canine girl. I can only imagine how hard this day has been. You have shown us the best of humanity. I know you will find her. Marty, send me another list of mailings.
Posted by: Susan Lorinsky | February 15, 2007 at 07:34 PM
Kathleen,
I just sent Madison's candles over 60 (kept having them go out--like Vivi's candles). If anyone else would like to send Gina a message (and maybe get the candles to 100) her site is B+.
Ruby-
Spit is named after the title character in author Morris book "Me and Spit McGee". (I can't think of the guy's first name.) If you have never read it, it is a cat lover's must read. It does end as all animal's lives do, long but still too short. This man like so many I know thought he didn't like cats; until that is one adopted him.
Of course, having a Mcgee myself, Jeanine and I correspond. My McGee, however, has the fancy name of Father McGee's Irish Mist, he is named after a priest cousin of mine who loved animals of all kinds.
Posted by: Sharon (MI) | February 15, 2007 at 08:00 PM
The author's name is Willie Morris - the book is "Me and Spit McGee".
Here is a note I received recently from Jeanine-
Thank you so very much for holding my beloved Spit McGee up in prayer. He has Feline Hypertropic Cardiomyopathy and the Doctors say it is hopeless. Spitty is my best friend and the light of my life. It is truly a comfort to know people care and are holding up Spit and praying for his healing.
I found the Candle sight and have seen the candles for my Spitty.
Thank you so much and God Bless all of you,
Jeanine

BTB- Jeanine is a prayer partner of ours at Prayers for Pets. She is praying as fervently for Vivi's return on that site.

Prayer for Protection
O Lord, grant that this night we may sleep in peace. And that in the morning our awakening may also be in peace. May our daytime be cloaked in your peace.
Protect us and inspire us to think and act only out of love.

Tango Bay: get a grip. The only "stupid loser" around here is YOU! Why do you even bother to come on this blog to associate your precious self with "stupid losers"????? According to you, you are so far above all of us "stupid losers" so why lower your lofty self to writing to us and reading OUR blog???? You obviously don't care and I certainly wouldn't want you to taint your sacred self by fraternizing with us "losers." You're so much better than us, remember, you heartless soul? I guess you were behind the door or in the gutter somewhere selling crack when emotions, care, concern, humanity, and a sense of caring were passed out. I pray to the dear Lord and powers that be that you don't have any "pets"/animals around in your life to abuse.... just by being in your presence. I feel very sorry for you. The only loser is you. OK Ladies - time to write some more letters
LATEST BOSTON ABUSE UPDATE
I was asked to help get the word about the sentencing today for McCallister, who pled guilty for abusing Boston.
Apparently McCallister only lived with Mendibles, the second abuser who pled guilty, for 14 days so he got off lighter. He has to spend 14 days in jail; he has a 3-year probation; he has to pay the probation office $50/month for 3 years; he has to pay Racing Home Greyhounds $791 for their vet bills for Boston; he cannot live with anyone who has pets or owns pets; and he has to register at gamblers anonymous with the casinos and not be allowed to gamble.
The judge publicly thanked all the greyhound groups and greyhound owners from all over the country for writing letters. He said we are the Mothers of Drunks Drivers in the greyhound world.
The sentencing for Mendibles is Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. at Pima Superior Court. Mendibles is somehow associated with Young Kennel at Tucson Greyhound Park and comes from a racing family. Boston did not come to him through any adoption group. Mendibles had Boston from June 1 to July 7. Boston had been starved and had open sores all over his body. He was deprived food, water, shelter, ventilation, and basic human contact.
Now is the time to write to the judge for that sentencing and let him know that Mendibles’ sentencing must be much stricter than McCallister (It’s a different judge) as Mendibles was the prime owner of Boston.
Send an email in the body of a letter to Diana Hofsdal, Pima County legal assistant and in the subject line put – MENDIBLES SENTENCING/ABUSED GREYHOUND. Let’s make sure that Mendibles gets what he deserves! Send to diana.hofsdal@pcao.pima.gov
Thank you,

Kathy,
I must have some how missed this one. Did Boston die?
I'll write tomorrow. I faxed the judge about the other case of the two bros in Atlanta.
Scum, I can't understand the abuse, it makes me sick!

Kathy - we'll get him!!!!!! i will write my butt off and feel very feisty today. God help him when i am done ripping him to shreds - scumbag. and speaking of which - Tango Bay - I DID SUPPORT A HOMELESS MAN AND HIS DOG FOR A YEAR, BIG MOUTH!!! $650.00 PER MONTH FOR RENT ON AN APT., SPENDING MONEY, CLOTHES, TV, AIR CONDITIONER, DRESSER, TABLE, DOG FOOD, AND VET CARE. SO, NEXT TIME, ASK ME SOMETHING I HAVEN'T DONE. Unfortunately, he passed last month and his doggie, Rocko was adopted and is a wonderful new warm home. i was fortunate enough to have a little saved to help him and i feel great about it - there is NOTHING that cannot be done if you try. AND WE WILL FIND VIVI. thanks for making a tough day even tougher. i would LOVE to see you in action here - i'm sure it would be quite comical and by your attitude, quite useless. you can stew in your own misery and say what you like but WE feel a warmth in our hearts by sticking with our girl and saving the others - a feeling that YOU will never ever know. keep going by hurting others - you are only making yourself look like a moron. and no - i am not fighting with you. i don't entertain simpletons. you asked, i answered. now go and crap in your hat.

Dog and Cat Food Desperately Needed at Little Shelter
The Ice Storm Has Taken It's Toll
Little Shelter is in desperate need of large bags of dry dog and cat food! Our supply is completely depleted and we need more to distribute to impoverished families who are part of our Animal Soup Kitchen (ASK) program this weekend.
We were expecting a delivery from a food bank in Pennsylvannia, however the ice storms have closed the interstate highways leaving us thousands of pounds short. One hundred and eleven families are relying on us to put food in the bellies of their hungry pets. We will accept any brand, but do prefer bags 20lbs or larger.
Our ASK team will be leaving for their deliveries on Saturday morning. The shelter, located at 33 Warner Road, Huntington, N.Y. is open 1- 7pm Friday, however donations can be brought in anytime between now and Saturday morning and left at the gate if we are closed.
Thank you to everyone who responded to our plea for cat food. We know you won't let these poor dogs and cats go hungry!

DOES ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP WITH THIS BABY WHO NEEDS A HOME QUICK???? DEBBIE ASKED ME TO POST:
Hi all,
I might of forwarded you an email from my home email last night about my cousin's dog Makai.
My cousin's youngest child is highly allergic to dogs now and they have to find a home for him.
He is a large yellow lab and I believe he is 6 years old. They don't want to put him in a shelter so they are trying to find a good home for him.
If you know anyone that would like to give him a good home please let me know.
Thanks!

I wrote Karyn to get more info on Boston - here is her reply below. I don't really agree with her opinions about the track but I am not in Tucson and I hear that they are bad there. The track that is associated with the adoption group I work with isn't bad - some of the trainers are but use your own heart to do what you feel is necessary. I think we all agree on the abuse by Mendible and what should be done there. I think June 1 - July 7th was a lifetime for Boston to be in his care and take abuse - track or no track. JMO
Karyn's reply:
He gained 35 pounds. After the case he can be adopted.
You know I was thinking this a.m. that most likely the dog was already somewhat abused (skinny) because he was only in Mendibles’ home from June 1 to July 7.
When you write letters put something in there about the horrors of the track. The county attorney cannot do anything about it and neither can the judge but it can pique their interest and reinforce it.
TGP has a new CEO who is media savvy and claims to have a masters degree. I guess they are going to try to improve their image. The other GM never called the media back and of course they didn’t like that.
http://www.azstarnet.com/altds/pastframe/business/168895
Maybe some letters to the newspaper about improving conditions at the track, having an open dialogue with concerns citizens, blah blah blah might be in order.

TANGO BAY AND ANY OTHERS OUT THERE:
I RESENT your posting very much. FYI, I am constantly lighting candles, praying for, and trying to help a sweet little girl who is in a moderate comatose state, Madison. With each conversation with her Mom Gina, my heart breaks at the discouragement I hear in her voice.
I thank all of you who have been kind enough to join me in this. You mean very much to me for your kindnesses.
Tango Bay, if you really do care about people, PLEASE light a candle and say a prayer for this little girl who seems to be sentenced to a life of no childhood unless by a miracle of God. Add some for all the other animals and their owners who are missing them so much too if you will.
Sorry, have to go. Crying too hard!

I've been pretty much sending a small check to Little Shelter for awhile now. I started last year and will continue..I think someone who works/volunteers there needs to find a food source for the shelter so they will always have food and not have to put up the distress flag. I know Petco, Petsmart, some of the markets will donate food or at least, they do where I am. It's a tough thing running a shelter and I admire the people, they just need to get someone to go around or call on a weekly or monthy basis..
Thanks for the info on Boston Kathy..I'm not liking Pima County Arizona. I'm still worrying about the Otis outcome!
Posted by: ruby | February 16, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Darlene,
I've sent money (online)to Little Shelter, and so i would encourage others to make a donation if they can. While I'm sure they need immediate food, I'm sure they can use the money to purchase food. Michigan Humane Society just had there big telethon on V day. I was so proud of the AKC, and Pedigree for reminding people about shelter dogs, this week.
Speaking of liquid libation, the Michigan Chapter of Team Vivi is meeting for lunch at a nice restaurant near me for our first get together. Barbara P, Rosa and I e-mail, and talk but this is the first time we get to meet and hug in person!!!
We are so excited! We will lift a glass of Merlot (our beverage of choice) in Team Vivi, and Vivi's honor at 1:30 today, and offer a short prayer for your success.("Whenever two or more of you have gathered in my name, there am I among You.") We hope to have another meeting soon where Mila can attend. In the meantime we will be thinking of you guys and wearing waterproof mascara! Stealing Rosa's line- Viva la Vivi!

Sharon - All of you gals have a wonderful time. Wish I could be there to join you and give you a hug too.
Everyone, don't forget to click on this link each day. There are some wonderful causes which you will be raising funds and food for (animal rescue included) simply by clicking on these links. Look at the statistics if you do not think these add up.
Also, it used to be you could raise extra food by signing up to be e-mailed with a reminder to click on this site each day. And, as Darlene pointed out, by purchasing items on the site.
I bookmarked this with CLICK EACH DAY to remind me to click on it daily.

Madison Update:
February 15
Well, my plan was to come on here tonight and update anyway but after seeing tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy I really feel like blogging.
There isn't too much new to report on Madison. She had a few really good days this week where she seemed to be a little more aware. She continues to turn her head more when people are talking to her. The thing we are getting very concerned about is her spine. I am taking her tomorrow for xrays so we can see a pediatric orthopedic specialist in Corpus Christi. She is getting scoliosis from the lack of trunk support. As much as I didn't want to put her in brace, I think it's going to be necessary. My original thought was that she wouldn't be able to get control of her trunk if she was in a brace, but we have to keep her spine straight to avoid more complications. I will see what the doctor says.
We decreased one of her seizure meds per orders of the neurologist as a trial on the 5th. I don't *think* I'm seeing any seizures but she is doing this one movement where she turns her head like she is trying to look behind her and holds it there. She was doing this before though so I don't know if it's a type of seizure or just something she is doing. We go back the last week in February to the neurologist so I will ask him then.
Other than that, there isn't much to report. Madison is hanging in there. I just went into her room a few minutes ago and she was almost asleep. I leaned over and kissed her and she smiled. That touches my heart.
Does anyone watch Grey's Anatomy? Tonight's show was VERY hard for me to watch. It was like reliving Madison's accident all over again. Seeing them pull Meredith out of the water completely blue made me sick to my stomach because that was me pulling Madison out. She looked blue just like that. The emotions that ran through my mind while I watched that episode were overwhelming. I love this show, but I have to say that if Meredith suddenly wakes up and is just like she was before, I think it will sour me on the show forever. You don't just wake up from a near drowning like nothing happened. Even when the water is very cold and you aren't there all that long, there are some effects. The brain starts dying very quickly. The longer you are there, the worse it is. I won't bore you all with the show in case you don't watch it, but if you do I'm sure you all cried right along with Derek.
Thank you for all the continued support and prayers. B+ for Madison!

NYC Vivi ladies: BE WARNED! The Michigan Chapter has made tenative plans to come to New York this Summer! (Although, we have discussed as early as April.) We talked for three hours, ladies! We lifted a glass of Merlot, and said a prayer (I will try to send Karen Stinnet pictures, when I get the jpgs from Barbara, or Rosa's cameras. (We tried to tailgate with the chocoloate fountain in Rosa's trunk, but the restaurant frowns on that sort of thing, and it was only 20 degrees outside!)Chocolate was in abundance. Rosa made us incredible battery powered candles which will keep our inquisitive animals from getting hurt. The plan is to keep them on when we are online. The are carved (and bejewelled) with Viva La Vivi! Maybe we can get Rosa to manufacture them, they could be almost as popular as the chocolate merlot bar!
Once again,Barbara is originally from Queens, so the plan is to make a road trip!
Think Crosby and Hope(those of you who are old enough) not Thelma and Louise.
By the way for those of you who read the ESPN article. I am from Michigan, not Minnesota.(No offense, Pam.
I'm sure Rosa and Barbara will give you more details later...

Here is another sad story out of Calif. Please take a moment to write a note to the Placer County D.A. to put a stop to people like this.
On January 8th, 2007 Irene Robacher of Aburn, California was forced to relinquish to Placer County Animal Control more than 20 adult Afghan Hounds. She was over the limit of dogs she was legally able to house on her property.
Additionally she relinquished 8 Afghan Hound puppies.
The adult dogs turned over to County officials showed serious signs of neglect. To date legal action has not been taken against Mrs. Robacher and it has come to our attention that she is expecting to get back the 8 Afghan Hound puppies even though the adult dogs that were turned over were in horrible condition.
So far 5 of the 20 adult dogs tested positive for heartworm.
All had Giardia and whip worms.
Many had bi-lateral conjunctivitis, a contagious eye infection.
Many were considered malnurished by the veterinarians who examined them.
All were filthy, matted and covered with horse feces.
Many have teeth that have been so severely neglected that cleaning will not be enough. So far several have had teeth pulled. One dog had to have 14 teeth removed.
The list of maladies goes on and on. These 20 dogs are the fortunate ones. They are being housed, receiving veterinary care and socialized by breed knowledgeable foster homes and will be given a second chance at life. Once veterinary care has been taken care of many already have an approved permanent home awaiting them.
These 8 aforementioned puppies deserve the same opportunity. Afghan Hound Rescue of So. California stands ready at a moment’s notice to pick up the 8 remaining puppies being house at the Placer County Animal Control Facility.
It is unconscionable to return these eight pups to an owner who has
1) Already violated county laws on the maximum dogs allowed
2) STILL has 12 dogs, 15 is the legal limit in her area and based on the dogs that have been turned in it is believed that all 12 that remain on her property at the very least have Giardia and whip worms.
3) Was advertising the adult dogs for sale at $5.00 each - dogs in this price range often end up as Pit Bull bait or used in lab experiments.
4) Has already had numerous dogs wind up in Afghan Hound Rescue of So. California because she was unable to care for puppies and dogs that resulted from indiscrimante breeding of unaltered adults.
Please scroll down and take a moment to examine the pictures and descriptions of dogs that follow.
Then please take a moment to write to the Placer County D.A. asking that he not return these 8 puppies to the "breeder".
Email addresses, contact information for county officials along with press coverage to date may be found at: http://www.Poodles.tv/AH
UPDATE: February 9th, 2007 A warrant was issued and THIRTEEN more Afghan Hounds are now in protective custody

signed the petition. i am going to investigate how to write a letter. being part of girls 2 weeks ago who saw what it was like to be in a home like that, to smell it on your clothes and skin no matter what you did to get it off, and to imagine what it is to be those babies - a petition is not enough. i will forward any info i can get. those people are UNCARING MORONS to return any of them to her!! just pass the buck..... SHE SHOULD BE JAILED IN A FILTHY CELL WITH POOP AND PEE ON HER. (and those to approve the return along with her) no shower, no food, no water.... welcome to their life. I will tell you guys - i will never ever forget what i saw and felt that day i experienced it. you can only imagine what your emotions would be - and it doesn't even come close. Well you know they will, Darlene!!!! Hey guess what? When I went to the pet store to buy the food, I must have gotten the worst shopping cart there!!! Of course pushing it with that much cat food through the icy, slushy parking lot was not too bright! It just stopped moving about 25 feet from my truck so I had to go back and forth with each bag!!! I guess it was good exercise!!

Nope - his usual Friday night fritatta. I'm having whatever. I'm not really very hungry. Had a big lunch. I'd rather drink anyway!!!
Posted by: Lois T | February 16, 2007 at 06:56 PM
I signed the petition and wish I could do so a thousand times. I agree Darlene-this woman needs to feel and taste the pain and to live the life she gave these babies. Sick or not, she does not deserve the freedom that she denied the dogs for so long. Never again should she be responsible for any life other than her own.
On a happier note I have found a dog that could possibly be Sniffles! I received a found dog notification for a shepherd at the Pet Adoption League in Mt. Vernon?. I just got off the phone with a lady there who is going to take more pictures of him. Same age, same features, same scar on nose. Has some questions on coloring that I cannot answer, though.
Seems a woman had been feeding him as a stray for a long time but just moved to FL and contacted the league about him. The shelter is not too far from the Bronx and Brooklyn, it seems. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!!
Pam, Sharon and Rosa! Wish I could have been there with you all, enjoying each other and the wine and chocolate! Good times!!

words to live by, Lo - that will be our new motto, "I'D RATHER DRINK ANYWAY." love the sound of it, don't you?? i have put off taking my meds. and have resorted to taking my "liquid meds." briefly. although i can't breathe out of my nose, it's friday - who needs a nose? you can always breathe out of your mouth, right? that's why we have a mouth - as back up :)

Off to light some more candles for Vivi and Sniffs and Hopey and Mercy and B+ for Madison and Kathy's sweet little Bowdee kitty and all the others!
