Farewell, Skidboot
Skidboot, the Texas ranch dog whose charming tricks and infectious personality landed him on David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey, was euthanized Sunday.
An obit in the Dallas Morning News reported that the 14-year-old blue-heeler mix was buried under an oak tree in Quinlan, Texas.
Skidboot had been in a downward spiral for several years after he was kicked in the head by a horse and blinded in one eye.
His immortality is assured, however, on the Internet, including on his official web site and videos of his performances at the Texas State Fair.

rest in peace, Angel :) you made alot of people smile.

You will be a huge hit at the bridge, I really
enjoyed Pet Star when he won, but I did not think
he was that old. The Owner's heart must be broken.
God Speed Skidboot

Sue, your post made me look at his website. He was 14 years old. I remembered looking at his site awhile back. Here it is: http://www.skidboot.com but look at this: http://www.skidboot.com/topanga_story.html
I have a special love for that breed. My uncle used to raise them on his farm, and they are SO smart and intuitive.

I have owned Australian Cattle Dogs for 35 years.
I know the owners thought he was a mix breed but to me he was all Cattle Dog. My condolences to his family that loved him so much.

What a sweet dog, rest in peace, Skidboot. I'm sure you will bring great joy and love to our Heavenly Father. We are all thinking of his owners and their loss. God Bless all creatures great and small.

God bless you Skidboot. There's no pain or suffering at the Bridge. I know you will be busy keeping every kind of critter in check until David comes to meet you someday. What stories you will have to tell him, then. Good dog, good dog!

Skidboot would never have been " discovered" without
David. Thank-you David for a truly unique ministry
that touched so many that would not have felt or thought of the warmth and understanding that you exposed them to... Thanks, DR

My cousin just sent me a forward of Skidboot and his wonderful friend and owner. I didn't know of them previously, but just seeing them and reading about them made me fall in love. God be with Skidboot and his human friend. What an honor for both of them to share their lives together. What an inspiring duo. God bless.

owners last year.
You provided him with so many wonderful years of love.

Two days ago I forwarded a video received via Email of Skidboot and his Master doing their tricks. It was a video that I had seen over a year ago, and in that video it was mentioned that his eye sight was going bad. There was no mention that he had been kicked by one of the horses. Any way, I sent this on with the comment, "I wonder how his eye sight is these days or if he is even alive".
Sadly I received the above story from one of my Email friends of his death.
I am so sorry for his Masters, who loved him so much. Having been through the trauma of loosing loved pets several times, it will take them a long time getting over Skidboot not being there. God Bless YOU!!

So sorry to David and family for the loss of Skidboot. I've had 2 dogs live to 14 and one to 15, and it's tough to give them up, no matter the age. Our hearts are broken at their death, but the memories live on. You all have great memories and gave Skidboot a wonderful life. He loved you all, that's evident in watching the videos.
Thanks for sharing him with the rest of us.

David, I watched Skidboot on Pet Star and on Oprah, and he was an amazing dog. He touched so many hearts in so many ways, and he will be remembered for so many years to come. God Bless the pups that will carry on his talent and love.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with all of us. I've seen this video before and what a blessing it has been for you to have had him in your life. He gave you JOY and you gave him JOY. Yes, he will live on here on the internet for a long time to come. You had a ministry indeed and by the looks of things, and the way you are with your animals, you will raise another one just like skidboot soon if you haven't already done so. God Bless you and your family David!
