For pits' sake

Among dog folk, the Canadian province of Ontario has the dubious distinction of having passed a draconian law outlawing pitbull terriers.

Pitbull Last week, a superior court judge struck down portions of the law --  specifically, the definition of a pitbull and a provision that allows vets to prove that a dog is a pitbull --  calling them unconstitutional.

Indeed, deciding just what is a pitbull makes an interesting parlor game.

Still, the bulk of the law still stands, and pit bulls are still to be leashed and muzzled while in public, and cannot be sold, bred or imported into the province.

Penalties for breaking the law include a $10,000 fine, six months imprisonment, financial compensation to any victims, and/or impoundment or euthanasia of the dog.

it makes me sick that there are laws out there banning breeds. i happen to love pitbulls - pure or mutt. they are a wonderful breed. so sad that people don't understand...

I agree Monica - it is the owners usually - not the breed itself - that warrants banning.

This is a great website that gives up the minute information regarding the pet food recall.

THAT LAW SUCKS AND IS TOTALLY UNFOUNDED!!!!!
WHY DON'T THEY OUTLAW THE PEOPLE WHO ABUSE THE FACT THAT THESE DOGS HAVE GENETICALLY POWERFUL JAWS!! EVER NOTICE HOW PEOPLE HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERYTHING LIFE HAS TO OFFER? DISGUSTS ME - JUST LOOKING AT THAT PICTURE ABOVE ENRAGES ME TO A POINT THAT I HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES. LUNA AND I BOTH THINK PEOPLE SUCK!!!!

I think the ones who make up some of these laws should be leashed and muzzled when in public and see if they like that. It's the people that abuse the system, not the animals. I agree Darlene, alot of people do just plain "suck".

I am asking everyone to contact their individual State Veternarian and insist that they do more to get the word out about the petfood recall. The attached article is appalling and shows a list of each state and what they are doing.

I agree, Darlene. It's the owners and a lot of times bad breeding that contribute to a negative image of a breed. That can apply to any breed. My previous black cocker spaniel was often mistaken for a Rottie and we know some sweet Rotties. We found out later he was from a puppy mill. He was a great family dog,but did not like men (except those he was familiar with) and was extremely territorial. You wouldn't have wanted to meet up with him suddenly and he was a little cocker spaniel. My neighbor's King Charles is like that. After offering to look in on her for a weekend, she terrified all of us, including my 6'4" son. To target a breed like this is outrageous and cruel.

So sad, on a happier note, my sisters Golden
Retriever Emma had more bloodwork done this morning
and her creatine level dropped, which means her
kidneys are once again functioning on their own.
She is able to come home tonight. Thank you all
for your prayers, t his has been so scary !!!

That's great news SueG.

OH - THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD GOING, EMMA!!!!!

Susan: my Chow was from a breeder who overbred and just was so greedy. due to the overbreeding, ALex was born blind and the familiar purple tongue was blotted with purple. Chows are territorial but this one - very aggressive and would KILL anyone that came near me or my parents - my sister included. He was one of 2 litters that had deformities and he was reported - by guess who???
i gambled again with another Chow -found another idiot in Long Island who ran a breeding mill in his backyard. i had to take her. at 5 years old, we had to have her put to sleep. she had turned on the other dogs - ripping my 2 little ones apart to the point that they needed drains in their necks. i couldn't give her to a rescue or shelter.... who wants a Chow with a TERRIBLE history like that? she would have been petrified and i couldn't leave her in a cage like that. i was the hardest thing i have ever done but i think it was the right choice.
so, i second the fact that PEOPLE are responsible most of the time - not all, but most. AND THIS CRAP HAS TO STOP. look at that baby!! what did he do to deserve that cage? exist - be born? sickens me!!!!

ASWESOME SueG - thank you for some much needed GOOD news. I am so happy for sweet Emma - made my day. Now we need some more good news on little Madison

Darlene - you hit the nail on the head.....what did he do to deserve that cage - he was born - it's the same with all these little foals --- idiots breed them and then send them to slaughter for the price of their meat. I would like to blow up the place and start over with some new rules......my heart breaks every day that I read something like this with dogs, horses, any animal ----- unfortunately - being on this blog and the Barbaro blog has made all of these atrocities even more prevelant in my everyday life now. Sometimes it is just so hard to get up with all this bad going on - and no power to change it.

Great SueG..I just lit another candle for Emma. I noticed that there is another Emma on the candle site.

Like I said, I was amazed that one can could do such harm to a big doggie like Emma. I'm so very happy she's doing so well!

Pats and hugs to Emma from my WhipperS...

It makes me sick looking at that poor little Pit.Not even a blanket to lay down on. Is that his food all over the floor?? No animal should have to live like that. The people like Otis' abuser Dean belong in a cage like that not an innocent puppy.

VIVI'S CANDLES ARE GOING TO BE VERY LOW, VERY SOON.
RIGHT NOW THERE ARE 280 BURNING, BUT THERE ARE A BUNCH READY TO GO OUT!
REMEMBER EMMA AND ANNIE AND ALL THE OTHER LITTLE DOGS AND CATS. BOWDEE STILL HASN'T BEEN FOUND. DUKE STILL NEEDS HELP.

REMEMBER LITTLE MADISON WHO HAS GOTTEN SOMEWHAT BETTER.

I have to say I do not agree with this. It's not the dog- it is the some owners who make the dogs dangerous. Like drug dealers.

is anyone else have a problem with the posts, saying that it is spam?

we are all suffering with the spam thing because of certain people posting.........

People do not realize that a pitbull is one of the gentlest breeds, I think beacuse of the way they look people assume the worst. What about Rotties and Dobies? A little training goes a long way and it has to be consistent not a 6 week course and you stop. Dogs always need training just like a child. For the morons who get them for fighting they should be thrown in a cage with the ones they train and let the dog have a free for all. People need to be trained on how to care for a pet.

Hey Ruby shoes my post went thru just fine. No spam comments at all, must be select people like you, aren't you lucky. What did you do now Ma. Love ya.

Sue G great news for Emma give that girl a big hug and kiss for me, I think she may need a new toy as a welcome home present, spoil time.

Thanks Ruby- I had to change my name but it's me
L speranza

Thanks girls for the prayers for Emma, they worked
big time, I cannot believe that this huge dog
ate 3 oz of cat food and almost died, this brings
this whole situation to a critical point, and the
media still chooses ( sp?) to ignore. She still has
to have her blood checked daily for another 2 wks , but at least she is home. Thank the Lord

Sus G Awesome news about Emmers :)

i'll give you all a small example of the predjudice pits face. one of my dogs is a pit-mix. her colorings are alot like vivi - white/brindle. that's my molly (or molly-moo to her friends - hehe). i brought her to the vet one time (she's petrified when we go to the vet - pees all over the place - very proud moments for me - hehe). anyway a woman and her little daughter walked in. i was in a chair close to the door. when the woman saw molly she pulled the little girl close to her and said "come here honey, that's one of THOSE dogs" - loud enough that i could hear it. molly wasn't even looking in their direction (probably too busy peeing!!). i'm adding comedy to it but it really sucks what ignorant people think... it makes me sick... i won't even get into homeowner's insurance...

oh i don't want to forget - sue i'm soooo happy emma will be ok!!!!

My first dog was a pit mix. Best dog I ever had. He would get between my kids and the fense if anyone came to close. He walked the house all night watching over us. He also got my ex when I went to pick him up from work after dark and he grabbed the car door, Gypsy almost bite him. Maybe I should have let him. Haha. I cried so hard when I lost him.

I cried when I lost the dog not my ex.

Moniker,
I know who you're talking about::::its Molly Mooo, killer from NY...What dweebs people are!
A long time ago I read that Pits are only DOG AGGRESSIVE,and most Pits I've seen are not dog aggresive and certainly not people aggresive. I love the little suckers and my boy is madly in love, not lust, with Lucille, the Pit mix...........

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17862261/

This was sent to some of us, it was regarding dry Iams and Eukaneuba prescription diet food. Seems the FDA wants an ingredient removed.

Hope has been captured. She went in the trap last night. Great news.

Hi Friends - thank you to all who are faxing or making calls - there will be no official call list today - I am copying this correspondence regarding the anti-horse slaughter bill:

There will be no Call In List today. Due to recent developments, we have been advised to put our efforts into trying to gain co-sponsors. The recent court ruling in Illinois has given our cause a great deal of media attention and now is the time to strike. Although there are currently no horses being slaughtered in this country, without this legislation it is still legal to transport horses to slaughter for human consumption (to Canada and Mexico). However, the ceasing of slaughter here in the United States may serve to accelerate the movement of the Bills and that is the reason for the big push for co-sponsors.

We are happy to inform you that we have four new representatives on board bringing the total to 136. And we've been assured that there are several others in the process of doing their paperwork.

There is also a wonderful new program being implemented in California that was started by one of our FOB's (Friends of Barbaro). This has proven so successful that we are hoping to expand it to other states. Details will follow in the next few days.

Please use today to contact your OWN representative and two senators. Also, this is "Pick Your Target" Friday! A day you can use to go back over this weeks lists and see if there is anyone that you think may be helped along by another call.

Please remember when making your calls to be polite and respectful even if you are not happy with the response. Our group must maintain a certain integrity in order to be taken seriously. Let us not be confused with those that have been labeled the "emotionally misguided".

Marty,
That is great news on Hope..
Some good news for a Friday!
Yippie

Great about Hope..When I saw the name, I was thinking Hopey! Theres still HOPE for HOPEY!

Kathy Co: I love the term, "emotionally misguided"!!!

Breed discrimination is indeed atrocious. There was an article in the AKC Gazette breed section a few years ago about a brindle boxer that got loose in CT. and some idiot called the police claiming a wild pit bull was roaming the neighborhood. The police came along and shot the dog on the spot just as rescuers were arriving. The dog was JUST roaming, probably trying to figure out how to get back home. Poor thing was a beloved family pet, there was no reason for such a harsh mindless overreaction.

Breed specific ordinances begin on a very local level. All it takes is someone with an ax to grind to go to the town hall to start the ball rolling, then as one town enacts a ban, others start following and next thing you know eventually the whole state does likewise. That's why it's important to keep abreast of what is going on in your local communities. This way you can nip this garbage in the bud before it escalates.

The pit bull ban that has happened in Ontario has also recently occurred in Denver and it can happen in NYC if councilman Peter Vallone Jr. gets his way. So my advice is to keep on top of this situation and make sure our voices are heard.

BTW: Many insurance companies are also refusing to issue policies to homeowners who have specific breeds and you'd be amazed at some of the breeds on those lists!

I lost my beautiful pit on Feb. 15th to the dang food recall...RIP Diezel....Now it is so hard to find a pit puppy to raise the right way (with love and compassion)...We can't let this ban happen.

Please say a prayer for my 14 and 1/2 year old Dog.She is passing thru the rainbow bridge today. Her kidneys gave out.She was the dog my kids grew up with.I am crying as much for them as well as my own grief. This is so hard.

She brought alot of joy into our lives. My family brought her home one year after my 16 y/o old Lab passed.May they run free with all the pets and people we have all lost.I will miss her terribly.Rest in Peace Chelsea.

I just said a prayer for Chelsea. I am so sorry she is crossing over but I'm sure she lived a good life. I do wonder tho, why you can't use your name. I'm always suspicious of people that use an alias. However, that's your right.

Margot, don't worry it is my sister posting, and
she is shy and leery of the blog, actually they
took the dog to the vet today to be PTS and they
found out she has lyme disease, and is being treated
as we speak. It will be touch and go with a 15 yr
old dog, but Chelsea has been such a good good girl
her whole life, and they have chosen to try and save
her life.

Sue G

Just me, I am very sorry to hear about your baby Chelsea. It is nice to know you are Sue G's sister, a very nice lady. It is nice to see some fresh blood on her too. Please feel very welcome.

PARDON THE CAPS:

Has anyone talked to Sharon or gotten an e-mail from her, and does anyone know how she is doing? Betty and I have been very concerned about her.

Does anyone have a phone number for Sharon where we could check on her to make sure she is okay?

Thanks everyone.

Sue G didn't know that was your sister. Please tell her we're praying that Chelsea will pull thru and I want to welcome her to the blog.I guess I did the wrong prayer but I don't think it matters. All prayers are good.

Kathleen: I will check and see when I heard from Sharon. Wasn't too long ago.

KAT: couldn't find Sharon's email but I know I thanked her for Harry's prayers and that was around Mar.20 She told me she had bronchitis and the Dr. wanted her to stay home.

I emailed Sharon and a few others too.

Sue G and your sister I am praying for Chelsea to be ok, my sisters lab had lyme disease and it was treatable. Stay positive girls fur babies are stronger then we think, give her lots of hugs for us.

Sue G,
Real sorry to hear you've had two sisters with dogs that suffered serious health issues this week. Sheesh what a week your family had! Glad to hear the dog with kidney failure recovered so quickly and the other one has something that is easily treatable.
Curious: What made them think the kidneys shut down on the dog that just had Lyme disease? If it was a vet that misdianosed, email me privately and I may be able to refer your sister to a better vet.
Also let me know what shows Fiona will be entered in so we can plan a weenie day trip! :)
I've been meaning to ask how did she do at the shows she was entered in? LOL Did she behave herself or should I not ask? ;)

DKM Hi
We thought her kidneys were failing due to loss of bowel and other factors.Chelsea is staying at the hospital as of this moment. From what I have learned kidneys can be involved.I am praying she has many happy years left.My Daughter said "Mom, Chelsea was fighting it all the way"Thank God she brought her to a good Vet.They checked for lyme first. Please keep good thoughts for my girl Chelsea. Thank you all for the prayers.

OK, its diarrhea time at my house...........The Natural Balance isn't giving my boy a good time. Poor baby. I guess it's rice and chicken for a few days.
I thought it was going fine, but I know now, I did the switch over wayyyyy too fast. My poor boy with the drizzle bottom.........say awwwwwwwwww......
Fortunately, he always "sings" when he has to go out.
Thought I'd share with ya'll, uh, yaw'll, youse..heh

Ruby - Onnie comes to me and takes my hand in her mouth when she needs to go out, as if she is trying to lead me to the door. Only problem, she has some really sharp and large teeth. She is so smart though - not one accident yet.

This afternoon this 31.1 pound dog decided she was a lap dog like Tinkerbell. She took a flying leap into my lap in the lounge chair. Wow, what a big lap baby! Tinkerbell is still trying to steal her big, big pressed bone and run around with it. It is so funny to see - the bone is about as wide as she is long!

Poor is the nation that has no heroes, but beggared is that nation which has and forgets them...in honor of my dear father Stamislaw..sent by Diane K

I hope no one will mind me sharing this quote from our Chaplain at St. Jude. I thought it was very touching and truthful also. Hope you can enjoy.

-------------------
"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death."

Robert Fulghum

Some of you may be wondering what Judge Roy Moore has been doing since he was removed from the bench for refusing to remove the ten commandments from his courtroom wall. Please read the poem he wrote.
The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama. The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
The land of Pilgrim's pride
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
abortion on demand,
Oh sweet land of liberty;
your house is built on sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said obstain.

From sea to shining sea,
our nation turns away
from the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray.

We've kept God in our temples,
how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
appointing Godless Judges
who throw reason out the door.

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
but brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God's not angry,
that our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgement comes?

How are we to face our God,
from whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
seek His Holy face,
and mend our evil way;

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America, the beautiful,
if you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from thee.

This says it all. May we all forward this message and offer our prayers for Judge Roy Moore to be blessed and for America to wake up and realize what we need to do to keep OUR America the Beautiful.

Pass this on and let's lift Judge Moore up in prayer. He has stood firm and needs our support.

IN GOD WE TRUST

PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN

"IN GOD WE TRUST"

Good morning Daddy God. We lift our hearts to you.
We are sorry for the things that are going on in our country and we ask you to let your Holy Spirit flow throughout our land and gather your children in. We love you Daddy and we ask for your blessings and miracles to reign among us as we go about your work to bring light into the world. Help all of your creatures Daddy. They are suffering for the actions of man. They are innocent. Please place a hedge of protection around them. Bring Vivi into sweet, sweet rescue as we ask your blessings upon her food, water and shelter. Your hand has covered her in love and we ask for your guidance for your mighty army to bring her home safe and sound. Guide her, speak to her and bring her home Daddy. In Jesus's Name we pray.
Daddy God, please help those suffering and heal those who are fighting for their lives, human and animal alike. Let your glory flow for all to see. Don't keep silent Daddy. Raise your voice and flood this earth with your Holy Spirit and Glory. In Jesus's Name, we praise you for all you are about to do in behalf of your creatures and your children. We worship you and you alone!!! We will not be moved!!

Poor is the nation that has no heroes, but beggared is that nation which has and forgets them...in honor of my dear father Stamislaw..sent by Diane K

This is horrible.
I myself have a brindle Pitbull, and shes just a year old..My grandparents and dad hate the fact that iu have it, but she is honestly the BEST dog ive ever had, and belive me i have been through alot.as an animal lover, seeing a certain breed being outlawed because of how they were brought up kills me.It is un fair to the sweet pits who have done nothing wrong...More Parents hurt their own children than dogs do, does that mean we should outlaw parents??NO.

i hate the fact that they discriminate against a certain breed. not all pitbulls are fighters or killers like some people think. they are just like any other breed, any dog can snap ..and mostly its because the owners mistreat them. dogs usually reflect the owners wants just so they can make them happy, thats what makes a dog mans best friend. its like punishing a human for being told to fight, or whatever to get money and decide to ban the person thats fighting rather than the person thats making them do it.

ok, first of all that dog in the picture isnt even a Pitbull (even i knew that) its actually an American Bulldog, pitbulls heads arnt that square, and the ears are different. this is the problem:
News people and media give out false identification on dogs calling other breeds that LOOK like a pitbull (but most of the time arnt) a pitbull. its really a huge mistake because some dogs that look similar to pitbulls but are not that are really Alpha blueblood bulldog, Dogos Argentinos,Ca De Bou's (the list goes on) they all call them pitbulls WHEN THEY ARE NOT! recently i was looking at a news artical about a pitbull attack, and sure enough the picture of the culprit wasnt even a pitbull but was actually a BOXER! seriously people, if you go around preaching about all the news articles of the dog attacks and the dog that is a pitbull, make sure you know or the writer knows what they are talking about.

Every black man will rob and shoot you, Every Muslim wants to kill americans, every Asian owns or works at a Seven eleven, every Gay person wants to make out with you, every pitbull will attack and kill you. Does this sound racsist? And is it just me that they all sound the same?

Think about it...........

i think that instead of putting a pitbull to sleep why not put the people who made that dog the way it is to sleep it is not the dogs fault why should the dog have to suffer it is not right my dog was put put to sleep cuz they said she was mean and that was never mean she was only mean if she thought some 1 was going top hurt me and when i lost i felt like i lost a kid and a best friend at the same time i loved that dog R.I.P. TOTORO babygirl and i never missed treated her or anything she was treated lIKE THE QUEEN she was and if i ever see any 1 fighting a dog or miss treating thier dog i will beat that ass and i am not playing dogs are supposed to be our best friends and that is what they are if you treat them right

im a little girl but my mom just made us geve our pit away and it killed me 2 see hem go but cause he was a pit he had 2 go and i was like its not his folt he is a pit is he suppose 2 by sorry hes a pit that is mean 2 think like that its makes me so made. thats a pit get away he will bit that is all i hear when i walk him. and my mom was getting made cause our boxer might have babies o its not my prloblem u let the dog in my room to bad that is all i have 2 say and i pups don't get 2 see there dad cause he is gone here is my mom i have 2 go

it so unfair to say that pit bulls are dangerous i have three and i would never own another kind of dog. They are not only my dogs they are my family and soon i will open my own pitbull rescue to stop the unnessasary put down of pits
