OOOPS - now I see - Long Island, NY -
ok weenies.......there you go - look for a long legged, long nosed pup!!!
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 03, 2007 at 04:26 PM
I JUST LOOKED IT UP kATHY:
"The area code 631 is used in the state of New York in eastern Long Island exclusively for Suffolk County."
I hate how newly adopted dogs get out so much, but of course if this was a burglery, I can understand it, they probably wanted her out of the house. Poor baby.
Posted by: rooooby | May 03, 2007 at 05:23 PM
Hey Roobie, the weenies will be in Suffolk tomorrow for something regarding Duke, wish we knew what town this was in so we could keep our eyes open. Suffolk is big. It could be all the way out to the Hamptons which is a 2 hour ride or Huntington which is a 20 minute ride gggrrr. I called the office but it is closed, double ggrrrr

GOOD NEWS!
I was so thrilled to read this post today. Stronger penalities for animal fighting have now been signed into law. One battle won. Hopefully we can put these cruel people behind bars now for a longer time.
I still feel strongly the best way to help all these fur babies is through getting tougher laws passed, and make sure they are implemented too.
Kathy (CO), maybe the Horse Slaughter Bill will be next. Praying hard it is.

I wanted you to know that I continue to pray for all of our various intentions, HOWEVER, every time I try to post a prayer it is blocked as spam. Every time I have broken through, it has taken 20 minutes to a half hour to do so. Our other prayer leader has borrowed a son's e-mail to bring the prayer to you as she is having the same problem.
Know that I do read the comments, and do pray for Vivi's recovery, and for all of your animal friends.

The ASPCA has a news story - do not buy pet food from companies that buy supplements or vitamins etc. or products from China.
Cross contamination is happening too - pets foods from companies that have had products recalled are not safe.

Vivi is, not was. She will be found and the party will be coast to coast. I don't believe in giving up. I haven't heard the fat lady sing or anyone else for that matter.
I've been reading the Church to Barbaro story. It's beautiful and you do need the kleenex nearby.
What a beautiful group of people this great horse brought together and his legacy will live on as all of us work to make the world a better place for all horses.

FROM TX: ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW WONDERFUL PIT BULLS ARE:
The pit bull was enticed to become enraged and attack and kill the cat, she said. "It was pretty bad."
When officers went to seize the dog — which had been a 17th birthday present for Miguel — and another pit bull in the same backyard, the dogs were friendly and docile toward officers, Kohls said.
A hearing next week will determine if the dogs will go back to Miguel or kept at the Houston SPCA, where they are now.
If convicted of the charge, Miguel faces up to two years in state jail.

What is your vendetta against pit bulls, Charly? It's getting tiring. My former cocker spaniel, Santana, did'nt like men and was extremely territorial. He was the runt of the litter and a puppy mill dog as we later found out. Because we got him at 6 months, we didn't know if a man had done something to him or something else. Never harmed my sons or my baby daughter when she was born. Dogs sense babies and little ones. He knew she came from me. But he was a pure watchdog and just a little cocker spaniel. You can't generalize about a breed. As a kid, I was attacked by a beagle mix and later a dalmatian. Like people there are lemons in the mix. But I never was afraid of dogs.
Posted by: Susan Lorinsky | May 04, 2007 at 07:23 AM
Charly - do you turn a blind eye to other extreme and rare incidents that involve other breeds of dogs or other types of animals and choose not to bring it to our attention? And - do you look the other way when it was the apparent enticement by a human that caused the attack? Apparently God appointed you the seer and reporter of all bad things pitty's do - CONGRATULATIONS you're doing a good job - however, it is not needed on this blog. Instead.......
I've got a new assignment for you Charly - I talked it over with God and he said it was ok for you to change assignments ---- your new assignment is to go after the kill buyers at the feedlots. GO GET'M TIGER

Anti Horse Slaughter Strategy
A WARM WELCOME TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED US!!
TWO NEW CO-SPONSORS IN THE SENATE!!! GREAT NEWS.
As you know, on Wednesday, April 25, S311 was voted on and passed in the Senate Commerce Committee. This means it is now released and can be put on the senate calendar for a full vote. While this is WONDERFUL news, our fight is very far from over. Actually, according to our sources, the real battle is just beginning.
We still must get HR503 out of the House Committees. This could be a problem. The leadership of both committees in the House, the Commerce Committee and the Agricultural Committee are AGAINST the bill. It seems that our best shot is to get the senate leadership to put S311 on the calendar for a full vote. However, the only way to assure this happening is by getting more co-sponsors in the Senate. We need co-sponsors in BOTH the Senate and the House. The more support, the better our chance for moving this forward.
FYI: The House and Senate bills can move separately, and if one passes (say it's S311), then the House could also pass the Senate version. It doesn't matter what the title or bill number is. Both houses of Congress just have to pass identical pieces of legislation, and both 503 and 311 are identical.
There are a few of you that are questioning this strategy and wondering why we are not targeting the committees. We have been informed that nothing will happen without more co-sponsors. For this reason, we have been ASKED to keep contacting any of our own senators and congressmen that are not yet on board. Please remember to NOT place calls to those that are already co-sponsors. As most of you know, the strategy can change at any time. When we receive new instructions, we will pass them along to you immediately.
IMPORTANT!!!!!.....It has come to our attention that some of the aides in DC are getting our two bills confused with HR249 that was passed in the House last week. HR249 is for the protection of our Wild Horses. That bill was passed in the House and now has to go to the Senate. OUR bill HR503 was NOT passed in the House but is still in committee. And it still needs co sponsors.
Please make sure they understand the difference. I was a little worried this would happen but I thought it would happen amongst ourselves...not with the people in DC!!!! If they tell you that our bill is out of committee in the House, please politely explain the difference. This could make a huge difference since some of them are saying that no more co-sponsors are needed!! That's just NOT true.
It is important to remember that our opponents have not become complacent and they have not given up. They are more determined than ever! They continue to make their voices heard and we must be louder.
Many of you are working with other groups also. While all the strategies are good, our success has come by following the directives that are given to us. Our contacts in Washington have asked us to stay focused on those directives.
For those of you are members of the state groups, please go back to Stephanie's original strategy. It has proven to be very successful and has gotten very good results. The response to our request for an Illinois group has been answered. Right now, Illinois needs our help. If you live in Illinois please contact w.szara@comcast.net
Alex has posted links on the anti slaughter site for your convenience. You can easily access both co-sponsor lists and more information about the state groups. http://www.timwoolleyracing.com/news/2007/04/anti_horse_slau.php
The momentum is with us...and never forget, WE ARE BARBARO'S VOICE! Make those calls and send those faxes for him and all the horses.
If you think one person won't make a difference, you're WRONG!!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; Indeed it's the only thing that ever has"...Margaret Mead
Thanks and have a great day.
PS - I found out this weekend that the kill buyer in Colorado just bought a brand new fleet of trucks and trailers so he is counting on this bill not passing and his business to be booming - we need to prove him and the others WRONG! Thanks for any help you can give.

I just received some info about a dog that has died from eating Nutro Max dry dog food. It's not on the recall list. Rooby? I know your babies are on Nutro. This is so scary.
Posted by: Marty | May 04, 2007 at 10:16 AM
Marty - if you get any more information on that, let me know please. My mom's dog is on dry dog food from Nutro. I'm not sure of the exact name.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 04, 2007 at 10:45 AM
Charley, you need to meet my Eskie. She's all sweetness and light until the doorbell rings or she sees a dog she hasn't met yet, then she is pure guard dog! And, I've been bit by dogs twice--once by my aunt's mini poodle, the other time by a friend's teacup poodle.
Posted by: Jessa | May 04, 2007 at 11:04 AM
I also know of a few examples of "vicious" small breeds. We also had a cocker mix who was very protective. He would even go after us if he thought we were intruding into whatever territory he thought he was guarding. We learned to read his signals and he lived in our family until he died of old age.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 04, 2007 at 11:33 AM
I'm hoping and can't really find out anywhere, that the Nutro is just the Nutro Max which is a cheaper brand of Nutro........I'm starting to panic again.
The company assured me the last time I went nuts about Nutro, that there food was safe.I now know they say what suits them at the moment.
I don't understand why all companies who sell dog food are not testing the food instead of waiting for our pets to die......
I'm off to check Itchmo and then call Nutro again.
Charly, why don't you go on a trip and take your
attitude about Pits with you? I'm really sick of your doom and gloom attitude. Shut up would be the best thing to say to you.
Posted by: rooooby | May 04, 2007 at 12:05 PM
Nutro just sold their entire company - everything. Talk is that something bad is going to come out so Nutro wanted to unload it fast.
The ASPCA advises that one should not use a company that imports supplements etc. from China. To be really safe do not use any product that contains any type of Gluten or Protein concentrate. And this may be a shocker, but these big companies are not telling the truth.
Also, cross contamination is happening and it is advised not avoid any company that has had a product recalled. The news media asked the FDA about this yesterday in a news conference.
You can find out which companies do not use glutens and protein concentrates and have not had a product recalled with a little bit of web surfing.
Posted by: Pukie Baby | May 04, 2007 at 12:13 PM
Advised to avoid any company is what I meant to write.

What the hell should I be feeding my dogs? I'm so very sick of this mess.
Posted by: rooooby | May 04, 2007 at 01:06 PM
As I mentioned a while back, I switched my dogs and cats over to Eagle Pack from NB - at my vet's suggestion. Go to http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/recall_stmt.html and read their info - it may make you feel better if you are considering switching to Eagle Pack or are looking for something to switch to. My pets are all doing good on this food, although I am only on my second bag so it is still pretty new to them. No Big D tho like I had with a few when on NB.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 04, 2007 at 01:06 PM
My pet store told me Eagle Pack was a good brand and I called the company and liked what I heard. Not everyone carries it, but the company has a store locator that you can put in your zip code and find the closest one. I put my puppy on this food and he seems to be doing fine on it. I switched from Nutro to homecooking to Eagle Pack.

I just received an email asking for help - if any of you can donate a few dollars - it will help - read thru these messages and see what a terrible thing this guy did to his horse - then called the zoo and asked that they take him for lion food - luckily the zoo called the rescue and the horse is now being treated but they need some financial help. Thanks friends.

You are so very welcome. I love horses. They are near and dear to my heart as are all animals.
The man who did that to poor Mac is an agent of the devil himself. But God's angels rescued Mac and I hope he continues to heal. And God bless you Kathy for posting here so we can see and help too.

Well said, PB, about Mac. I'm glad he's going to have some happiness in his life now.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 04, 2007 at 02:44 PM
Kathy, why are people so mean to animals? Is it because the animal is unable to fight back and it makes the human feel they have the power? Do you know if anyone is going to file an animal abuse complaint against this man? I sent $100.00 to help Mac.
Posted by: Meri-Lou | May 04, 2007 at 02:45 PM
Yup, it's all about power and control over the helpless. Someday they are going to have to account for their abuse.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 04, 2007 at 02:53 PM
Thank you for helping Meri-Lou. I don't know about your question ML - It breaks my heart with each story I get told about. I guess it takes all kinds - look at the abuse we've seen just on the Vivi blog- what Wayne Dean did to Otis and all the others. Heck - look at what Denise's sicko neighbor is putting her and Duke thru mentally and financially! Some people feel big by beating, controlling or demeaning another person or thing - must give them some kind of satisfaction in their sick mind. I'm just thankful that God has dispersed Angels among us all to help when Satan's followers attack. I truly have found a band of Angels --- you guys are wonderful for helping.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 04, 2007 at 02:56 PM

If anyone is interested I feed my dog (Rosebud for anyone who hasn't heard of my little girl) a product called PHD. Perfect Health Diet, it can only be purchased from dirctly from the company. It gets mailed to your home on a schedule so you always have food. It is a little pricey but there are not preservates, wheat, meat, food coloring, etc. Rosie has been on it for close to 10 years and thank God, aside from these annoying cysts she gets she has been very very healthy. No bad breath, hardly ever has diareahh (sp?), etc. Her disposition sucks, but I don't think that has anything to do with food. Haha!
If you care to know more about them, just email me and I will get you the information.
I spoke to them and they do not import anything that is in their food. You can't even buy it anywhere else but from them.

Yeah, I did watched the race a little bit and did thought and prayed that all the horses aren't hurt!
Which was why Barbaro was watching down here and in his spirit, he was running along with them! :-)
And...pray for the tornado victims in Kansas!
Bless them!
Posted by: Paula Wright | May 05, 2007 at 08:43 PM
Kathy, I couldn't see his spirt, I was crying, but I did FEEL the love he sent to the horses and jockys.
I also hoped none of the horses would get hurt..It's a tough game, horse racing.
Posted by: rooooby | May 05, 2007 at 09:25 PM
I too watched the race today. I kept thinking about Barbaro though. In the pre-game doings, they showed his two younger brothers which I thought was cool. It sounds like baby brother resembles Barbaro alot. It was still sad though.
Posted by: Pam in MN | May 05, 2007 at 10:07 PM
I hate horse racing and I hate greyhound racing - I know the horses and dogs love it but it is the greedy humans that get involved that make it a bad think in my mind. Its been a tough day for me - all day of Barbaro and I've done nothing but cry. It feels like it is January 29th all over again. I think Barbaro was put here for the very reason - to make an impact and to change things......he sure has changed my life.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 05, 2007 at 10:11 PM
When I watched the races today, I kept wondering how many of these creatures would be dumped in the future at feedlots or wherever when they were no longer winning?
Posted by: Pam in MN | May 05, 2007 at 10:18 PM
Pam the very same thing crossed my mind - right now there is a granddaughter of Seattle Slew in the feedlot ---- they breed and breed and then throw away. We have got to stop this - stop the slaughter and hauling of horses and make the breeders responsible for the life of a horse for the horses life.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 05, 2007 at 11:43 PM
Thank you, Kathy, for the address.
I watched the special on Barbaro that was on at 8pm. It was sad, but his spirit came through and the love his owners, trainers, jockey and the wonderful Dr. Richardson still have for him is so uplifing. He was a loved and treasured companion. You can still hear and see the grief in each of these individuals. Seeing his new baby brother was wonderful. Because of Barbaro, this great group of people from all over came together and are saving horses in his name. There is hope. Now if only the reason we all came together could be found, that would be so wonderful.

I watched the kentucky derby for the first time. I do not like horse racing. My biggest fear is that the horse falls, & then has to be put down..
I did not see any horse breakdown yesterday.. I was happy for that.. But seeing how beatuful all those horse are.. They get the royal treatment, before that race.. I fear for some of them after the race ..

I just signed the petition, Kathleen. What a wonderful idea. I hope they are picked. Extreme Home Makeover has built remarkable homes for families with all kinds of needs. The people seem very compassionate, also. Keeping my fingers crossed that we will see Madison's family get a new home.

I cannot tell you all how much this means to me. The signatures are growing very rapidly for Madison and her family.
I watched Extreme Home Makeover tonight (as I do each week), and the one tonight really touched me so deeply. I cried most of the way through it. This lady was a single mother who took a step to purchase a home for she and her four boys. Then the house was destroyed almost by termites before they were even able to enjoy their home.
I thought back to the days of how difficult it was for me to purchase the home I now live in being a single (or divorced) mom myself. I remembered the excitement and joy my two sons and I felt when we moved into our new home. You would have thought we had won the lottery! So my emotions were pretty wild tonight for this lady, Mary Noelle.
This new home for Madison and her family would be such a blessing and make their lives so much easier and better I truly believe. I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for helping with your support over the past year and now on this petition. Bless you all. I am still crying after the sweet comments I also read with the names.
I pray someday Madison will be able to come to this blog and thank each of you for all your help. With God's grace, I believe we may see that day yet just as we will see Vivi come home finally.
Posted by: Kathleen Stephenson | May 06, 2007 at 09:21 PM
Amen, Kathleen. May they get the home they deserve to make their lives easier. May we welcome Vivi home very soon.

Don't forget the media blitz on Wednesday.....
Anti Horse Slaughter Strategy
Strategy for Monday May 7
Although S311 was passed in committee and is now released to be put on the senate calendar for a full vote, our battle is just beginning.
Our sources have confirmed that to target the committees at this time, would NOT be the most efficient use of our time. We have been informed that nothing will happen without more co-sponsors. For this reason, we have been ASKED to keep contacting any of our own senators and congressmen that are not yet on board. Please remember to NOT place calls to those that are already co-sponsors.
Our opponents have not become complacent, instead they have become stronger. They are more determined than ever! And we must be also. For this reason, we are asking you to do the following:
Click on the link called Media Blitz/Horse Hands Across America and follow the instructions. This is an URGENT call to action to all FOB's. Action must be taken on Wednesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 16!!
For those of you who have not yet become a member of a state group, please contact Stephanie at sbreaux1@verizon.net The response to our request for an Illinois group has been answered. Right now, Illinois needs our help. If you live in Illinois please contact w.szara@comcast.net
Alex has posted links on the anti slaughter site for your convenience. http://www.timwoolleyracing.com/news/2007/04/anti_horse_slau.php You can easily access both co-sponsor lists and more information about the state groups. AND the Media Blitz link!!
WE ARE BARBARO'S VOICE! Make those calls and send those faxes for him and all the horses.
If you think one person won't make a difference, you're WRONG!!

Some very sad news ---- Cavel re-opened this morning and has begun slaughter operations. Please call your senators and reps and ask them to support S311 to end horse slaughter in the US --- this is heartbreaking. Cavel is making all this money on OUR horses and Cavel is FOREIGN owned - I'm sorry, but I'm ready to kick all the foreigners out and keep all our money and food here ---- we'd be a lot happier, safer and richer.
Sorry - this is not a very good day - my heart is broken but I am not giving up and ask that you help me in getting this bill passed - PLEASE
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 07, 2007 at 11:06 AM
Just curious - Are there protest people outside this plant? Do protests get organized to picket this place?
Posted by: Pam A. | May 07, 2007 at 12:32 PM
Oh Kathy, this breaks my heart too. Those poor, innocent, beautiful creatures. I agree, protesting might raise enough of a stink that the media attention might get this passed or something done to close them in the meantime.
Wish I lived there to protest. I'd put on my old Hippy attire (ha, like I could still get into it) and off I would go.

I'm amazed, disgusted and heart sick at the Cavel slaughter house...thousands of horses have been killed in 2007........It's May, how could that be possible?
I also saw that the Cavel slaughter house is owned by people in belgium.......
We're in to help you Kathy..we will stop it!
Posted by: rooooby | May 07, 2007 at 02:36 PM
I don't know about any protests but will find out - our Illinois FOB's are pretty on top of stuff - we were joking that we were going to have to lie in the middle of the highway - it may not be a joke now - it may be reality. Will let you know what I hear about protests.
Yes - all three s/h are foreign owned - they are the ones that eat it - we need to get rid of all foreign-owned businesses and get our country back.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 07, 2007 at 02:56 PM
it's heartbreaking Rooby but there are hundreds of horses all over the US in feedlots every day just waiting to be loaded up and hauled to Illinois or Mexico or Canada --- people would rather sell them for meat than to feed them or care for them ---- the almighty dollar. They want you to think it's the old that are there but there are week old foals, pregnant mares, ex-winning racehorses, healthy, vibrant, horses that nobody wants. The FOB's have rescued 600+ so far and we aren't going to stop till it is over with. I know you all are with me - it helps that I can come to you and you are there. every time I hear of a desperate plea to raise funds to rescue a horse, I will let you know, but you are all welcome to go to the tim woolley site and become full fledged FOB's and help get the word out. It's a big job but a rewarding one ----- each time you look into their eyes you see their sweet soul.

I wasn't on the blog yesterday but I just signed the petition for Madison. There were 80 names when I signed but Madison needs many many more. Please everyone sign and ask your friends to sign also. This child and her family really need our help.
Posted by: Margot | May 07, 2007 at 05:44 PM
I'm wondering Kathleen Ssss, if you had Madison's petition on the regular petition site where we had Otis and where Duke's petition still is, if you wouldn't get more signatures??? It's a thought. I know on that site, the signatures build up fast. You could have two petitions that was.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/create.html
Posted by: rooooby | May 07, 2007 at 06:35 PM
*** I MEAN: YOU COULD HAVE TWO PETITIONS THAT WAY.
/0;
Posted by: rooooby | May 07, 2007 at 06:38 PM
That is a good idea Roooby. I may try again. I tried a couple of weeks ago, and it would never accept my petition and send me the e-mail confirmation at the Petition.com site. I also e-mailed them twice and got no response.
I found another child needing help who had used the GoPetition.com site and went there. No trouble with that one yesterday, and it was immediately posted.
It certainly would not hurt to have two. I think I will try the other one also this week. Thanks for the suggestion.
Margot, thanks for the good word. We are up to 100 signatures now. Please everyone, e-mail your friends, animal lovers and family and ask them to please sign and support Madison too.
Thanks for all of your help. We will get there, and it will make a difference just like it did with Otis' situation.
Posted by: Kathleen Stephenson | May 07, 2007 at 08:54 PM
I agree, Kathy. These type of foreign businesses have to go, especially Cavel. My senators and reps are co-sponsors of the bills. I hope these bills get passed and we can tell this Belgium company where to go. To do this to such majestic beautiful animals that symbolize the American spirit and for what?
Posted by: Susan Lorinsky | May 07, 2007 at 11:48 PM
hey strangers - i did sign Madison's petition.
been out of the loop awhile and missed you all. we are still hot on the trail of Duke's defense and YES, there is still Vivi posting happening.

Posted by: Pam A. | May 08, 2007 at 11:12 AM
Hey Darlene, I saw your signature this morning and Debbie's too. Saw Margot's also yesterday. And so many other wonderful people.
We are up to 133 signatures last count, and growing pretty fast. I'm going to try building a second site like Roooby suggested tonight at the Petition.com too. I'll use my yahoo e-mail and see if it will work finally. I know Roooby and others have mentioned mail being returned from my Juno, and I think some weird stuff happened when I was getting those crazy e-mails that caused this.
Got my fingers & toes crossed for Duke's new verdict, and also for our precious Vivi and the others. Keep the media blast going for our horses like Kathy said - we will win this battle too with God's help on our side!

On the Itchmo site, there is a MSNBC story listed about this new pet food, in a roll that is put in a frig and sold in stores - it's called FreshPet and sells for about 60 cents a pound. No rendered animals and only veggies and meat etc. It sounds good so I thought I would share it; I haven't tried it but I might this week.

The FDA just had another newsconference: It seems that now it is "Wheat Flour" that is contaminated. So avoid all "Wheat Flour" in anything especially doggie treats.
Seems that ChemNutra shipped the junk to Canada and they in turn made it into fish meal, and it seems to be the fish meal that is actually fed to live fish on fish farms. And they FDA tested what they thought was "Wheat Gluten" and it came out as Wheat Flour, where the Chinese were just grinding flour and adding the Melamine and C. Acid to it to up the protein count, to make it appear as if it was "Wheat Gluten" (which is processed) and it was unprocessed Wheat Flour.
Ugh!

For those interested I heard that there was a rally at the state capital in Springfield, Ill and there is also a hearing in the US senate on anti slaughter.
This just in:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Illinois Bill to Protect Horses Passes
Senate Committee
Bill Moves to Full Senate Hearing
WASHINGTON (May 8, 2007) – Today, an Illinois Senate
Committee voted 7-0 to
pass a bill banning the slaughter of American horses
for human consumption
overseas. The Humane Society of the United States
applauds the Senate
Committee and urges the full Senate to quickly pass
this legislation.
The bill, H.B. 1711, passed the Illinois House last
month and now moves to
the full Senate. Governor Rod Blagojevich strongly
supports the bill and
has lobbied in favor of its passage.
“Horses are an integral part of American history,”
said Wayne Pacelle,
president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United
States. “They are our
companions, not food animals. Horses should not be
brutally killed to end
up on a dinner table overseas. They deserve our
protection. Lawmakers in
Springfield recognize this. The Humane Society of the
United States is
grateful for their support.”
The Cavel International horse slaughterhouse in
DeKalb, Ill., is the only
active plant in the country killing horses for human
consumption. After a
federal court ruled that the U.S. Department of
Agriculture could not
provide inspections of horses about to be slaughtered,
the plant was shut
down. However, last week, an appeals court stayed the
ruling, temporarily
allowing the DeKalb plant to resume operations until
an appeal could be
heard. On the federal level, U.S. Rep. Janice
Schakowsky (D-9/Ill.) is
leading the effort in the U.S. Congress to pass a
separate bill, H.R. 503,
which would ban horse slaughter for human consumption
nationwide.

hi everyone - today is the media blitz Wednesday - please email the media in your state -
There is a planned Urgent Media Blitz to take place on Wednesday, May 9th and Wednesday, May 16th. This media blitz is designed to create awareness for the AHSPA and to gain more support among Americans. We need more "HORSE HANDS ACROSS AMERICA" to get involved. This is a chance for everyone to do something. On the 9th and 16th, we are asking you to copy this letter and send it to all of your local newspapers.
(a media link is provided below)
FOB's have proven that we CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! That said, we're asking you once again to HELP US ORGANIZE the biggest media blitz this country has ever seen to save our horses! Raise your voices once more and help make this media blitz a success!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please review the following letter written on behalf of The Jacksons and other Derby Winners' owners.
Please copy this letter and click on the media link below to find the local papers in your area. You can send the letter to 5 different papers at once and then you can go back and do it again!
http://www.newspapersol.com/
The Letter:
We stand with the proud owners of Kentucky Derby winners mentioned in the following letter published in the Louisville Courier-Journal on May 5. We join them in urging Congress to end the slaughtering of American horses for human consumption abroad.
Derby winners' owners: End 'cruel and brutal' practice
As proud owners of Kentucky Derby winners, we urge Congress to pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S 311/HR 503) to end the horrific practice of transporting and slaughtering horses for human consumption abroad.
While we have been fortunate to have bred, raised and raced world-class horses, we know we have a special responsibility to all horses, champion or not.
No horse should face the cruel and brutal end that slaughter entails.
Horses taken to slaughter are often purchased by killer-buyers; many others are stolen from their owners.
Still others have been surrendered for sale by owners unaware that their beloved animal will end up in the slaughterhouse.
Transport conditions are so bad that even the Department of Agriculture has condemned them.
Horses bound for transport are crammed into crowded trailers, unprotected from heat or cold and deprived of food, water and exercise for up to 28 hours. Many do not survive. Those who do are often too sick to stand.
Abused, terrified and desperate, they are then beaten and electrocuted to death.
Recent court rulings have temporarily shut down the three horse slaughter plants in the U.S., but foreign companies are now exporting American horses to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada.
Without a federal ban, they will continue to transport horses across our borders for slaughter and might soon be able to relocate their slaughterhouses to other states within the U.S.
The American Horse Slaughter Protection Act will close these loopholes and put down slaughter for good.
For our horses and our humanity, we ask that this bill be passed.
This letter was submitted on behalf of the following owners:
Staci and Arthur Hancock (Sunday Silence, 1989; Gato del Sol, 1982); John and Debby Oxley (Monarchos, 2001); Mike Peagram (Real Quiet, 1998) and William T. and Barbara Young, Overbrook Farm (Grindstone, 1996), all of Kentucky.

DARLENE - my weenie queen ------ I'm puckering up and puttin on some special red lipstick for your kiss
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 09, 2007 at 03:59 PM
Hey Darlene - You need to design one of those Budweiser special outfits for Kathy to wear when she goes to kiss all these horses! Nothing but the best for Kathy! It has been a long time since you have designed one - it is TIME.
Posted by: Kathleen Stephenson | May 09, 2007 at 04:51 PM
Nothing too flashy - don't want to scare the horseys
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 09, 2007 at 04:55 PM
Our friend Jill told me how some of the horses loved the licorice and peppermint, maybe Darlene could string that and some of those good hotdogs on it for a little snack for all of them too. Some looked like they could use the extra calories.
Posted by: Kathleen Stephenson | May 09, 2007 at 04:58 PM
th;ey LOVE peppermint candies ---- Barbaro had a fancy for the green spearmint candies - didn't like the red ones and he would pick them out they say. We had so much fun feeding the horses apples, carrots and horse candy AND the peppermints too when we went up to the rescue on the 29th - my granddaughter McKenzie was in 7th heaven around those horses - and the babies --- she wanted to hold them even tho they were 10 times her size - hahaha

Hey Kathleen, Great news about finding quicker ways to contact Extreme Home staff. keeping my fingers crossed. I just went to the Rescue site who have Mac, the horse the zoo contacted them on. Darlene, don't look at it. I'm so upset I can't see straight. I can think of a few things I'd like to do to those people who threw him out like garbage. Maybe the lions would like something different for dinner. Thank goodness for the angels who saved Mac.

You know ladies, just when we feel "down" and need some encouragement, God always provides. We have had so many wonderful things happening this week.
Bambi is home. Kathy and her group are saving horses right and left. Mac is getting the love and help he needs. Madison's chance at having the home that will help her is looking better and better. Kathy is going to get to kiss a "whole lotta horses" soon. Roooby has petitioned herself silly today and is exhausted. The media has been hitting the horse slaughter issue bigtime. No horses were injured in the Derby (thank God). Darlene gets to design a Budweiser original for Kathy to wear while she kisses those horses (with treats attached). We have not given up on Vivi and the posting continues, and on and on.
Life is good. Time to go home and take Tinkerbell some chicken to make her smile too! Chicken pot pie night at KFC - $1.99 special. She loves those chicken pot pies.
Night everyone. May we have many more blessings and good news tomorrow.

Thank you Kathleen for reminding us of our gifts. AND THANK YOU to everyone for helping me with the horse rescues, the faxing, petitioning, the calling, THE DONATING and all the prayers and good thoughts. The day will come when there will be no more animal cruelty on this planet - with your help, it will come sooner.
PS - We only need $1600 more to rescue the 11 horses in the Colorado feedlot and we only have until noon tomorrow to raise it ---- This total started at over $6500 so we are closing in. Thanks to everyone who has donated or sent prayers.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 10, 2007 at 10:21 AM
Oh Kathy...so close. I hope and pray it can get raised.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 10, 2007 at 10:41 AM
Kathy, I just read this and was wondering if you had heard anything about these little guys. Let me know as I will do what I can to help them out.
FOB's...
Several FOB's and I have been notified of the opportunity to save at least 10 foals under 4 months of age off of a feedlot.
Each foal is $250 each.
We need to collect $2500 to get these foals off the
feedlot. We have foster homes for all of these foals. One of the fosters will also be taking the Twins in June. All of these homes were referred to me by Shelley Sawhook of the American Horse Defense Fund. References have been verified.
Let's get these lil ones off of that lot asap. We are trying to pick them up as soon as Donations to be sent to
loloparks@aol.com via www.paypal.comSaturday.

MERI-LOU & KATHY (CO) - I just e-mailed Jill from the blog with the info. She knows so many people who do dog and horse rescue and love horses as well. I'm sure she has some great contacts to get the word out about these babies.
Continue to keep those toes, legs, fingers, etc. crossed Kathy. We will win these battles and have more victories to celebrate yet! Now we just need good news on Vivi, Sniffles, Biggie, and sweet Duke! What is taking that Court so long with Duke's case .....

Here is an update on the original 10 foals i mentioned
Hi All..
The foals are still on the lot with their mothers.
At first, I was told we could just get the babies.
UPDATE...THERE IS A VERY STRONG CHANCE.....
They will let us save the MARES AND FOALS together!!!!!
17 MARES AND FOALS.
They are calling me back today with confirmation.
We definitely have adoptive homes for 6 Mares and Foals.
Working on more with our contacts.
It is SO much healthier for the mare and foal to go together.
NO HORSE LEFT BEHIND!!

$220 to go to get the foals and their mamas Meri-Lou - I'm sure they will all get saved - the FOB's are an incredible group. Still need $1100 for the ?Colorado 11 - heard one was sold out from underneath us to a Mexican rodeo - for tripping - bad if you don't know what that is - trying to see if we can up the anti and make the kill buyer sell her to us. PRAY ---- tripping is not a good life.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 10, 2007 at 12:54 PM
Loosing this one mare to the Mexican Rodeo has caused quite a stir on the Barbaro blog - they are now down to needing $875 in just a matter of minutes ----- sure hope they can do something to get her back - course they will just buy a different one probably ---- there unfortunately is a lot of horses available to get. So many horses that no body wants -----
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 10, 2007 at 01:02 PM
Kathy, I read the blog and I believe it indicates that they have raised $220.00 for the 17 that still need to be rescused (10 babies and 7 moms). The 10 babies will cost $2500.00 and they don't know yet how much the moms will be. I am going to do my part and purchase one. I am also putting another challenge to this group and that is, if they come up with enough to purchase 5 ($1250.00) additional babies, I will purchase another one. If anyone is willing to take me up on this, please let Kathy know how much you are sending, so that she can keep me honest.

THE COLORADO 10 HAVE BEEN SAVED!!!!! They are seeing if there is a way to get the one mare back from the Mexican Rodeo people.
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 10, 2007 at 01:58 PM
Wonderful, Kathy!! I hope that last mare can be rescued. I looked up tripping -- not nice (to put it mildly). It's unbelievable how nasty people can be.
Posted by: Pam A. | May 10, 2007 at 02:06 PM
and I found out it is legal in colorado, wyoming, california and texas - we have to stop this along with slautghter
Posted by: kathy in colorado | May 10, 2007 at 03:44 PM
YOU'RE KIDDING!!! This act is legal in certain states??? It's gotta be stopped. Put me on the bandwagon. I wanna sign a petition.

I just found out the pregnant mares that were saved have been moved to a safer location in case they foal before being moved to rescue - the mare that was bought by the Mexican Rodeo is still there and they may be able to get her back - the rodeo wanted all the two year olds gut the kb said they were already spoken for - why this one slipped thru - who knows but they are trying to get her back - PRAY PLEASE
