Now I just heard about the rapper's home in AZ where they found a dogfighting ring and there were dogs found there alive and dead. Those poor dogs. What is happening to humans?

Sheriff raids DMX' home, seizes dogs

Sheriff's deputies raided the home of rapper DMX on Friday, seizing several pit bulls and finding the remains of three other dogs but making no arrests.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office received a tip more than a week ago about dogs being kept in inhumane conditions at the Phoenix-area home, said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Detectives visited the home and then called one of the rapper's lawyers and told him that the conditions for the animals at the property needed to be improved or deputies would take action, Arpaio said. The dogs were not being fed or given water.

Authorities returned to the home Friday.

The 36-year-old musician and actor, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was not at home during the raid.

Simmons' lawyer, Murray Richman, said Simmons hasn't been in Arizona for at least two months and was "extremely disturbed" to hear the animals weren't being cared for properly.

"We had a caretaker that wasn't taking care, that's what happened," Richman said. "He loves dogs — he loves these animals. Those dogs are practically his family."

Richman said he hadn't been notified of problems at the property until he learned of the raid Friday. Sheriff's officials said they had contacted another lawyer who works for DMX.

Arpaio said the deputies who served a search warrant at the home Friday seized 12 pit bulls tied up on the property and took them to an old jail that has been converted into an animal shelter.

Deputies found the buried dogs when they dug up the back yard. One had apparently been burned and the cause of death on the others was unknown because the bodies were decomposing.

Deputies also found a variety of firearms, Arpaio said. Authorities sought additional warrants so they could check the guns to determine if they were legal.

DMX's albums include "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" and "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" and "Year of the Dog ... Again."

I think that someone should sue Vick in the name of his dogs to provide them with a sanctuary to live out the remainder of their lives in - since it looks like they are going to be put down because it is too risky to place them in homes. He should have to pay for it!

Marie, your idea is a beautiful idea, but I doubt these dogs could ever be allowed to be around other dogs or people that much. It would be a lonely life I fear. Wish it could work though. Wonder if they could get the Dog Whisperer to work with these dogs perhaps.

I was thinking about these dogs and their incompatible existence in society now. Dogs are such beautiful and forgiving animals and so devoted to man. Can you even imagine what these babies have gone through to make them turn like this? Even more sickening to me than I could have ever imagined I fear. May Michael Vick rot in prison for what he has done to these animals along with these other thugs!

Update on cocker spaniel at WH shelter. She has a few more days of advertising for the owners to claim her and then she will be put up for adoption. The sergeant there said that she's a sweetheart and a lot of people have been looking at her so she should be in a good home soon.

Here's another one. My son and grandaughter were visiting today and went for a walk after dinner. My granddaughter who's 7 came running as fast as she could to tell me that a puppy that was in the fence down the road with goats and cattle looked like it was starving. My husband and I got some puppy food and went down there. The people don't live there only come out once a week and drop off hay and give water. Maybe some dog food but I didn't see any. The puppy is probably about six months old but was sooooo skinny it's little stomach is all sunk in. We feed him and he ate it all. We will do this everyday until the owners show up and we can talk to them. Since there are no laws on domestic animals in this county the sheriff won't do anything. At least we can feed him for now.

Tell your granddaughter we all say she did a really good thing.

Sometimes you can call the closest humane society or animal shelter and report it to them. Often they have an investigative department, (or one staff person) who will at the least pay a visit to attempt to educate the neglectful pet owners. It might be in a neighboring county- around here rural counties share that kind of thing sometimes.

By the way, I encourage everyone to write to the Honorable Hudson. Here's my letter to him below (since Vick is being sentenced on the 15th and he's been known to be tough). By the way, just because the prosecutors want one thing, doesn't mean the judge will honor it!

In an article regarding Michael Vick, it is my understanding that, as a judge of the U.S. District Court, you are by no means “bound by any recommendations or federal sentencing guidelines.” I hope that you agree with my belief that the prosecutors’ recommendation of 12-18 months is lenient.

Being an advocate for both innocent children and animals, I think it’s time we stop with just the slap on the wrist and start handing down stronger punishments. Mr. Vick is not remorseful. He’s only repentant because he got caught. He not only lied to the NFL commissioner, his Falcon teammates, and to the American public… he straight out lied to his own family. If he had any type of remorse for his actions, then he wouldn’t have lied to begin with.

As mentioned in my letter dated July 17, all I can think about is the three dozen carcasses of dogs that were found on his property – killed in horrific ways – and the 60 live dogs who were malnourished, scarred, and injured. We need to put a stop to this.

Again, Mr. Vick has been given an opportunity that only exists as a dream for most kids: to be a multi-million dollar quarterback with the NFL. Professional athletes are role models to children… whether they choose to be or not. They have an obligation to set a good example.

I know we can be that much closer to putting an end to dog fighting and animal cruelty altogether if we used Mr. Vick as an example… and not let him get away with what he’s done.

This Michael Vick stuff is really making me sick. What a scum bag! I wanted to share an update/story about Bo Bo the shih tzu I was trying to find a home for. Some of you might remember, his owner was put in a nursing home by her son and he was left at the house all by himself. Well, I just found out that this woman's tenant called around and got Bo Bo a home on a farm where he could spend his senior years in peace. From what I understand this woman's son told her tenant that he had one bullet waiting for this dog. In shock to hear this, this man found poor Bo Bo a home. This woman's son also was leaving dry dog food for this dog that didn't have any teeth and was literally starving. Here's one more scum bag to add to the list of abusers. Well, he put his mother's house up for sale and it sold so thankfully I won't ever have to see this low life again.

Just wanted to share something that had a happy ending, sad from the beginning but happy in the end.

Kathleen Thank you for that link on State laws. I finally printed them out and had time to read them. It says that if the county does not have animal control then the county sheriff is in charge. It also says that any animal left for at least 12 hours without food or water anyone can enter the premises and feed or water the animal and can recover the cost of the food. I have not read it all but this was what I needed. My husband stopped the man yesterday as he was only there a short time and told him he needed to feed his dog more food. He smiled and said Si. So much for that. If we continue to feed this dog and he does not start I will call the Sheriff.

I really don't think the man speaks English. He takes excelent care of the goats and cows and I think what he is doing is feeding the dog which is in the field with the goats, and the goats eat his food. There are some Spanish people that live across from him that speak English but they have been gone all week. I am going to call the Sheriff today and talk to him about this. It was late when I got to read the Statues for the State. Will let you know what happens. I still do not have my kennels built yet as that takes more money than I have right now, but we are getting the area ready, then I can offer a place for animals like this. Right now they probably carry them to another animal shelter out of county and I don't know if it is a kill shelter or not and I don't want that.

The Stephenson twins have arrived - happy and healthy it appears! Mom did great and had them without a C-section. Luke was born a little slower and they have him in ICU nursery under observation as a precaution - so grandma is still very stressed.

Dear people...I'm the "dog-lady whose daughter lost her cat and I sent the warning about the possible new distemper in cats. She found her cat dead...I haven't had time to get on line since I heard the good news about Iggy....I've rescued five...[yes...5!!!] dogs in the last four weeks...never saved sososo many in sososo short a time...DON'T PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO PUT A TAG ON THIER DOGS/CATS COLLARS...??? Any way...the questions are these....do you mean to tell me not only do we have a @#%$^* !!! named Vick who has fighting dogs who lived the most terriable lives...but now there is some other ##%^%^ !!! named DMX who has done the same thing to other dogs..??? And am I to understand a third #$%$^* had a pit bull that he set on fire...tied to a tree...and was arrested on some un-important little traffic violation...with a young little red pit bull female in the car....AND SOME SCUM-BAG JUDGE GAVE HIM BACK THE FEMALE PIT BULL...?????...Please tell me I am wrong...if not ...what the heck can I do now to help???

BETTY AND MICHAEL - Thank you SO MUCH for the wonderful prayer for our new babies and myself. They are just beautiful. Little Luke had a rougher time, but seems to be okay. Selena was definitely in trouble with pre-eclampsia when they decided to induce labor.

16 horses face death in Gilmer, Texas from texas news......

PLEASE CROSS POST:

Immediate action is needed to save 16 horses forced to return to the hands that starved them to the edge of death. Today (August 27th) Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter, Precinct No. 2, Upshur County, Texas, ordered 34 horses (http://www.Kltv.com/Global/story.asp?s=6958259 ) be sold at a sale barn to pay the veterinary bills of the horses recently rescued from death. Unfortunately 16 of the dying horses are to be returned to the abuser himself, Carlton Nelson. The Justice of the Peace says 16 of the rescued horses are in a condition worthy of return and further notes the horses "should not have been seized in the first place considering their condition." This "condition" is based upon their current appearance following 10 constant days of veterinary care and nourishment and a far cry from the condition noted by photographs of these same animals 10 days ago. The 16 horses are being returned today but the District Attorney has the right, and obligation, to appeal the ruling and thus save these 16 from imminent death.

The Justice of the Peace personally acknowledged to me in the courthouse today that he expected to see the Defendant, Carlton Nelson, before him within 7 months, noting his belief that these SAME horses will be abused by this SAME man in the future.

Please contact the District Attorney of Upshur County, Texas ( Billy Byrd) and compel him to file a timely appeal necessary to provide protection to these animals and save them from ultimate death. In addition, ask the District Attorney to file 51 counts of animal cruelty against the owner, Carlton Nelson.

BTW I just edited the new link to Vivi's group which is quite a bit shorter. Brought the file down to 303 kb from 305 kb. There is a 300kb file limit on my server so I am pushing it but it's the only file I have that large other than the rescue photo I made of the hoarder dogs which I didn't realize I didn't delete. Roooby - I am with you. Had to run errands today and go to the store, and I got home "dripping wet" with sweat! No more outtings for me until Tuesday and back to work. I have a bad cold, so not going to see my boys anymore until I get better. Spoiled them holding them a lot for the last two days though!

Convicted Puppy Killer, Oleg Zhdanov who was arrested in 2005 for
beating his puppy to death, was dismissed from jail sentence and
given 3 years probation has been charged with violating his probation
by having two cats in his apartment. His hearing date is set for
September 6th, 2007. Authorities recently removed the two cats from

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP NOW:

Please take a moment to write the Judge who sentenced his probation,
the District Attorney and ASPCA's President Edward Sayres and ask the
ASPCA also support this. Please tell them that you feel Zhdanov
should have had to serve his jail sentence for killing his puppy and

I am writing to you regarding the Oleg Zhdanov case, docket #
02046-2006. I understand that Oleg Zhdanov was convicted of killing
his puppy and that his jail sentenced was dismissed and that he has
violated his probation. Please do not let Oleg Zhdanov further mock
you by letting him get away without jail time for all that he has
done. In addition, please order that he never again be able to have
an animal of any kind. Since killers usually start with animal
victims, your decision is needed now more than ever to protect us and
our children from criminals like Oleg Zhdanov before they begin
killing humans.

If you have adopted or sold the cats pictured below or any other
animal to Oleg Zhdanov or his companion Tanya Becker who both reside
at 320 W. 56th Street, Apt 3G, NY NY, NY or anyone at that address,
please contact the Dept. of Probation 212-442-1662 immediately for
assistance. Tanya Becker works at Creature Features pet store in the
East Village and boards animals in their apartment, so if you've
adopted an animal to her or anyone at that store or given your animal
to her for pet boarding, let the Dept. of Probation know immediately
and also ask for assistance to get the animal back.

If you are a shelter or rescue group, add these people to your Do NOT
Adopt lists and cross-post and distribute this information to your
local Dog Runs, Vets, Groomers, Doggie Day care facilities, etc.
These people may be sending other people to shelters and adoption
events to adopt animals for them. Alerting your local dog groups,
dog runs, etc. is important because these people pet sit and have
boarded dogs in their apartment. You may save a life by doing this.

Puppy killer collared with exotic cats

A convicted puppy killer banned from having any pets but fish has been busted for consorting with two exotic cats - including a $2,000 miniature Bengali tiger.

The cats are in the custody of the ASPCA, and Oleg Zhdanov is charged with violating probation and could face up to a year in jail.

"Those cats were in plain view," said ASPCA Assistant Director Joseph Pentangelo.

Zhdanov, 35, pleaded guilty last year in Manhattan Supreme Court to animal cruelty for fatally beating his 15-pound, 5-month-old mixed Lab.

In January, he was sentenced to three years' probation and forbidden from keeping any animals except his collection of tropical fish.

The ASPCA conducted a raid last Monday after a tip that cats could be seen through the window of the W. 56th St. apartment Zhdanov shared with his girlfriend, Tanya Becker.

Becker claimed Zhdanov didn't live there any longer, and another man who rents a room in the apartment said the cats were his.

Suspicious ASPCA agents returned the next day and this time found Zhdanov in the apartment, along with Tommy, the tiger cat, and Rocko, a rare Snowshoe.

When the agents grilled the roommate, he produced a receipt showing he purchased Tommy in 2003 from a Web site, Junglebeat.com, for $2,000. He said he got Rocko from a shelter and had no idea that Zhdanov had pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

The ASPCA agents took Tommy and Rocko for safekeeping. They left the fish.

"The cats are healthy," said Pentangelo. "They showed no sign of abuse or neglect. But they can't cohabitate with the defendant."

A neighbor who requested anonymity said Zhdanov deserves to be caged.

"Now he has totally disrespected the judge, the court and the ASPCA," the neighbor said. "The judge should put him in jail."

Jack Ryan, a spokesman for the city Department of Probation, said Zhdanov will be notified this week that he has violated the terms of his probation.
